had (4) mouse traps in the house last night. no bites, good news, may have a lull until more move in?

had 1 rat trap outside. this morning I saw it had been tripped but didn't catch anything. then I saw a video clip of this possum around midnight. toward the end of the clip, one can hear what might have been the trap snapping. hope he didn't get hurt. I don't mind possum since they stay outside (as far as I know)

I need a new wildlife camera, mine has expired and I miss being able to catch what's going on in the garden overnight .

More 'deadlife' than wildlife unfortunately. I'd heard of rats taking small birds before but never actually seen it, until yesterday. The cats were sat in the conservatory watching something out on the patio, so I looked to see what it was, there was 'Roland' sniffing around eating fallen bird food, in and out of his hidey hole behind a plant pot. He darted back out of site, then a small bird, probably a Coal Tit landed right in front of him, the bugger leapt out and grabbed the bird before diving back in . Proper peed me off that did as I like my little feathered visitors and always have a banquet out for them.
Well, we're not having any of that are we? Half an hour later big 'ole 'Roland' had a .22 Bisley hollow point for desert, and that was the end of him. As is tradition, he was hurled over the wall into the field to provide tea for the crows. I guess Karma's a b#tch.
The moral of the story, don't pick on the birds, as the birds have friends.

On the subject of birds and rats, these duck, moorhen, and rats seemed ok together at dusk yesterday. There were a couple of Egyptian geese (female) that kept their distance though. I suspect someone may have just chucked some bird food onto the grass, which brought them all out.

Many years ago my parents retired to a small island only connected to mainland by a causeway maybe ½ mile long and creeks it crosses several hundred meters wide and for years no squirrels. Then more recently a wildlife organisation clicked it would be a great place for red squirrels (no competition) so legally introduced them. Locals really supported the move and were all putting squirrel food, reporting sightings. several years later they are well established. Seems isolated enough that greys don't move there. (Mersea Island in Essex). The causeway does flood for a few hours at the top of spring tides but the flooding won't keep anything from crossing.

Let's hope the grey squirrels don't read Cyclechat. If they do they'll be hot footing it to Mersea island

yeah, they are pretty fun & useful

at the house I have:
1 Blink out back, outside on a table
1 Wyze indoors looking out our back bedroom window
1 Wyze indoors, on the top floor looking out a side window

I have 3 GardePro game / wildlife / trail cameras & I move them around, inside & out at my house & my Mother's vacant house

I would like more of them at her house & my house. it's amazing what is going on, that we don't normally see
