A risky drive out to RSPB Frampton Marsh this afternoon, risky because the forecast suggested showers...and shower it did, along with the windy conditions you often get just before. But, a few hours out there, walking, better than being indoors, but that did keep the smaller birds hunkered down.
Nevertheless...a Ruff

and a probable young Reed Warbler

Enough out there but as often is the case, too distant to get good photos of.
Got back to the car JUST in time

More local today..
Gutted, reports of a Black Redstart at a meadow viewpoint, shot over there but i guess it had already moved on.
Several Heron vying for position in a meadow / scrape. Water is almost gone but you still see them take the occasional small fish.
Little Egret (probable, too distant to really ID properly)
Buzzard were doing their usual calling and swooping around near their nest site.
Young Great Crested Grebe, looking like humbugs were on the big lake.

Quiet generally but..INCOMING !!!!

Little Grebe was fairly obliging...

Probable fem Blackcap, got some lovely detail, shame it was facing the wrong way..

I think a young badger dashed across Chancellors Lane (near Durley) in front of me last night around 2100.

Thanks to the rain over the last two days the river Neckar is looking a lot more full: It's also carrying more sediment, so I can't see the fish, but I can see dozens of swifts flying above the surface, presumably hoovering up insects.

I was also watched by several buzzards and red kites as I cycled to the shops this morning, and I'm pretty sure I saw a cormorant while I was crossing the bridge to go home.

I was on a walk with a naturalist with my camera that's good for macro photos...

Ive not been out for 12 days due to developing shin splints.
Today I got my 1st walk in. I saw a beautiful Red Admiral, the colours were really vibrant. Unfortunately it was camera shy.
I also saw what I thought was a beautiful pink flower but google tells me its a Himalayan Balsam and is highly invasive and bad for the environment. It still looks lovely though.

Just been for a 2nd walk. Plenty of butterflies (mainly various whites) but they wouldn't pose for me.
I did get 2 photos which I was happy with.

Google tells me this is a bull or Spear Thistle.

Evidence rather than the animal. Newly planted plants in our garden, all dug up. Admittedly the evidence is circumstantial, but I suspect it is Mr Badger's work

Another few from today's walk. Nothing unusual but all look nice on a sunny day.
Rosehip, Elderberry, Ragwort and even the Bindweed looks nice (when its not in your garden of course ).

Funnily enough, along the riverbanks of our local parkland there's quite a.lot of it. Not sure what the governing body of the park think of it, you can see its taking over in places.

I noted a photo of elderberry a little further down, one of the regulars here (of many ive grown to know since taking up wildlife.photography) thinks this may be a tough year for migratory birds.
Blackberries came relatively early and are somewhat stunted.
Elderberry is stunted compared to normal.
Early migratory birds going out may be ok refuelling, late ones not so much and the incoming ones such as fieldfare may struggle.a lot to find food.

Every day is a school day** as I try to get regular walks in through the country park followed by various lanes.
**years ago I tried to learn about wild flowers but along with my interest in butterflies, birds and fungi it was too much.
Today's offerings are......
1. Common Fleabane
2. Common Hogweed/Cow Parsnip.
3. White Himalayan Balsam.
Being new to this i am open to correction if I get anything wrong.

Child free for a few hours so off out to the local haunt. Still quiet out there but looking over the meadows (they're fenced off and no human access is allowed) atop a distant bush sat, i think, a Spotted Flycatcher. Edited to add, local experts think its far more likely a female Linnet... hopes dashed
Far too distant for a decent photo, maxxed out the zoom, used a crop factor of 1.6x, added a 1.4x extender, then heavily processed the photo then cropped to get this

Still, nearly 4 hours out, walked two or three miles, nice chats with various people, a good day even if there wasnt much to see
