Spotted this heron on this morning's ride

Just went out in the garden to put the hedgehog food out and this was hopping across the patio

Child free from 10am so out on the bike, see what's out there.
One meadow with a dried out pond suddenly has an appreciable level again, three heron stood motionless watching...
Hides were predictably quiet, i did see one Kingfisher shoot past, then i assume almost immediately double back on itself, either that or two of them crossing paths.
One Wren close enough to get a photo of.
Rode to the riverbank after 2 hours, nowt much happening but yay !!! a Sparrowhawk flew up and perched on a branch in a wonderfully lit position on the opposite side of the river, despite it being a little dank for good photos.
Young GC Grebes, lots of Coot (seemingly hundreds of them on the big lake)
Quiet, the SH saved the day, made it worthwhile, 4 hours out.

What’s digging these holes in my ‘lawn’?

Had a couple a few months ago but getting more and more of them. Latest batch, only a few metres from the house, but there’s plenty more over quite a wide area. Holes are about 50-60mm diameter, shallow entrance but then deeper tunnels.

No activity during the day, and these particular holes no activity at night according to my wildlife camera.

I’m rather hoping they are from voles and not rats. If rats I’d have seen them bc about, but nothing.

Thoughts?

Collapsed mole tunnels?
nb there might not be mole hills or fortress, they might be very old ones only collapsing in now the ground is so dried out.

The last few weeks have been pretty sparse with birdlife in particular, this morning was fairly buzzing, lots of LBJs (little brown jobs) flitting around, feeding and often actually vocal.
Chiffchaffs, Cettis Warbler, Jay flew quite close past the hide, Dunnock, probable female Sparrowhawk (bloomin massive), Buzzards very vocal, Wren, various Tits, all quite busy.
A Little Egret flew in

Dunnock kept flitting in and out..

And two Roe deer (seperate), a young buck and one of this years youngsters in the distance

Early hours of this morning whilst running

Rather beautiful orange lichen on today’s ride. Seek tells me it is Xanthoria parietina. Quite common but the macro lens on the phone adds lovely detail.

found some wildlife in the basement while looking for bungee cords. took a minute to collect a folder & cup to capture it

walked it out into the forest behind our house, about a 10th of a mile & let it go. it scurried off under some leaves. good luck kiddo, don't you come around here no more, no more

Not as busy out there this morning, more Herons, a distant view of the buck roe deer, a few other bits and bobs but..

Blackcap male, seen a few this last few days, i did have a shot of M and F but wasnt good enough

A couple of nice sightings this morning at Fell End Nature Reserve, near Arnside. I didn't have a wildlife lens, but I did my best.

A great white egret (a first for me as far as I can remember):

White Tailed Eagle seen over Peterborough this morning, would love to see that...

Playing with the macro setting on the phone camera again. Interesting fungi, lichens and liverworts. I think the first is a lichen with Cyanobacteria, the second is Marasmius rotula, third is Cladonia, polydactyla, the fourth and fifth are probably different growth stages of the same mushrooms.
