A wretched rat caught on camera last night. One in itself isn't a problem, but we had a plague of them earlier in the summer and thought they'd all been dealt with between us and the neighbours. He's a big blooming thing too

On our way back from rural-ish Lincolnshire this afternoon, loads of dozy-looking pheasants, obviously from mass release of tame birds for f**kwits to shoot in the next few weeks and boast about what a good shot they are. Wonder how many lead-filled corpses will be discarded rather than ending up on a plate. Also at least 10 dead by the roadside after collisions with vehicles. Along raptor alley (the B1202 between Metheringham and Boothby Graffoe), four Buzzards and two Red Kites waiting for traffic to ease so they can come down and eat their fill.
One Kestrel and one Sparrowhawk along the same stretch, but they probably wouldn't be interested in the carrion.

I heard it suggested that Pheasants were selected by the Aristocracy as game after a long search to find a bird with less intelligence than themselves, and even then it was a close call.

At least they aren't allowed to slaughter the kites, buzzards and other wildlife to "protect" the Pheasants any more.
