There's two ways of shuffling off this mortal coil that appeal to me.

The first is to die suddenly whilst cycling; either from being run over or from a sudden heart attack or whatever. The second is to die like my grampy. At the good old age of 93 (Whilst living with my parents.) he went out for a walk like he did most days. When he got back he told my mum that he thought he'd possibly walked a bit too far and overdone it a bit; with that he died instantly, no pain or suffering or anything like that. Active till the end and a nice dignified death so to say.

There's a world of difference between 'due within 75 years' and 'probability of 1 in 2,564,000', which is what NASA actually say.

My gran got it right. Admitted to hospital at 90, and had her sons and daughters called to her bed on numerous occasions as she was "on her way out", only to wake up when they were all there and say "oh hello, lovely to see you all...". She eventually ran out of waking up moments when she was 96.

Much like my own father, lived to 83. Walked around a nice park lagoon near his house, 2 miles each day. One day he felt ill after, so he walked over and checked himself into the hospital, so they called his 97 year old gerontologist, who told them to admit him, he wouldn't be at the hospital if he didn't need to be. He died 2 days later, after having survived alot. The great influenza epidemic of 1918, the great depression, WWII as a combat infantryman, prostrate cancer, quadruple bypass, leukemia, and an earthquake.
