I like steel bikes and I cannot lie..

Way back in 2020 whilst on the cusp of purchasing an example of the renown jack-of-all-trades Genesis Croix de Fer, I foolishly clung to the pure, minimalist ideal of owning but one bike. As of this day I have five and can't help myself yearning for more..

This thread invites you to leave at the door the bounds of all reservations, morals and practicalities and lay bare your material desires for the mutual pleasure of the good people of CC :becool:

If I had the luxury of more accomodating bicycle storage (as well as a more palettable lifestyle) I'd love the following:

A proper old-school gent's town bike - the epitome probably being a Raleigh Superbe. Something I can casually waft into town on and arrive cool and unflusted in my houndstooth Harris tweed jacket and chinos, ready to be universally, comprehensively rejected by the ladies:

-A vintage steel tourer; a bicycle I can float around the countryside on, pretending it's still the golden era of cycling and that mankind doesn't have to face the inevitable repercussions of decades of irresponsibility and greed.. The obvious mainstream choice being the formidable Raleigh Randonneur:

An original, period-correct thoroughbred Italian steel road bike; probably one of the more subtle offerings such as a Rossin of some description (not too keen on the aestitic of the one below, but a few tweeks would see it right IMO)..

A modern, lugged steel road bike with a modern mech. group set; such as a Condor Classico:

A fat bike - not too familiar with what's on the market but something ridiculously slack for wafting over dunes and drifts with gay abandon. Perhaps a Surley Pugsley:

A decent, steel full-sus XC MTB (if such a beast exists - not something the image search is au fait with it seems!)

So, what's on your fantasy bikeshed bucket list?

A Royal Enfield Revelation if you please. Ideally in red. King of the small wheel shoppers.

Some kind of titanium gravel bike, maybe a Sonder Camino Ti or whatever.

More wheels than sense
Not liable to be buying either of these anytime soon , nor later but these two are floating at the top of my turbulent wish list.

If you have a wish list who in there right mind would buy something with Sora?

My Kona Sutra LTD is my jack of all trades adventure bike, I've had so many fantastic adventures on it, it goes pretty much anywhere and lugs loads with ease, I'd honestly be hard pressed to want anything else.

That said, I have just dipped my toes into the world of mountain biking in order to expand my off-road bikepacking capabilities and whilst I love my Sonder Frontier, if money were no object then this Mason Raw hardtail, bedecked with Hope componentry would be my mountain bike of choice:

And then there is my Tern Link Uno, I couldn't think of a more practical, sturdy cheap and reliable bike for my daily commute, this bike has been a solid workhorse for a number of years now, an old photo, it's a lot scruffier now!

And then of course how could I forgot my home made bamboo bike, the best summer days and smiles per mile bike:

So yes it's fair to say, I'm lucky enough to own what I consider to be the most perfect bikes already and can't see that changing anytime soon.

To qualify my response above, I am more than happy with my fleet (of 9) - each has a role to do and whilst some get ridden more that others they all have a place. However, in a money-no-object, fantasy world, I would definitely have more. Same with cars, motorbikes, cameras....

Got to be honest and say there's nothing about my Spa steel audax that needs fixing. OK, maybe it would be interesting to experiment with disk brakes or fatter tyres, but that's just idle curiosity.

Really, between them the Spa and my Brommie fulfil all my needs.

Been thinking about this and I don't think I would add anything to my current collection of machines

that should be qualified with ..."which consists of every bike ever produced up to 1987"....

If I had cash to burn and more storage, then I might "upgrade" the Bianchi Infinito CV to a Specialissimo with electronic shifting

I'd be temped to add a classic Colnago master to Vintage fleet

and I'd replace the cheapo Alu gravel bike with some titanium beast

Cheers all - some nice metal (and wood  ) being banded about

In principle I'd be happy with just the one bike (if I could find one to do everything, which is doubtful given the need for a lowish value utility hack) however new usage opportunities keep cropping up to justify more gear and some stuff I'd just like to own because it's intrinsically nice.

Tbh I could probably flog my Boardman as it rarely gets ridden (once in the past two years IIRC) however it's a nice bike for what it is, performs well and I put a lot of time into selecting / acquiring it and setting it up I'd be sad to see it go..

Sorry wafter, @Accy cyclist has already been there and done that. I'm sure he'd be glad to give you a few tips on dress :becool:
