My ride today will be 2.5 miles at 6am, temp is around 0C, cold enough to bring a tear to a glass eye

After an offer from a mate yesterday of joining him for a 50 miler (declined due to a late finish ;) :cold:) at the crack of dawn this morning, I had to pop out to get a few bits from the shop. It had warmed up to -2 by this time.

I solved the frozen padlock issue quite quickly and skittered off down the road..

Would you believe there were idiots out playing football in this weather?!

After getting what I needed from the shop, I added another 9 miles to my route home to make it up to 100 for the week. Roll on the rest of 2015...

The old house was looking a bit spooky through the frozen mists on the way back as well..

And, once home, I realised why the rear derailleur was slipping a bit.

Ho hum.. Off to w*rk now. Boooo

Out with the Kingsway CC again this morning for our first club ride of the year. A few newbies and - even better- someone older than me came along today, making a cracking turnout of 15 of us. Not everyone fancied the hills, so we rode along together as far as Stonehouse before one group made for the hills and the other headed for home the flat way. There were a few of us Cycle Chatters in the hill group, including @gordyfinbar, @Largie, @Dark46 ,@maltloaf and myself. @Dark46 is much braver (or just way more foolhardy) than me, and was trying out his new clipless pedals today. I know what you are all wondering. The answer is "less than 5 miles" ..... (before he went wheels up)!

We had a couple of visits from the P******* fairy today, making it slow progress with lots of waiting around, and I managed to drop my chain a couple of times. Apart from that, and the biting cold it was a decent ride. We headed off up the (normally) beautiful Slad Valley into what felt like freezing fog, then back home through the glorious Buckholt Woods. It there is a better stretch of cycling road anywhere in the county, I haven't found it yet. It's a lovely undulating and gently winding descent through the trees on smooth new tarmac. The fog, coupled with ice falling from the trees made it a very cold experience today though. I tagged on a couple of quickish extra miles at the end of the ride just to warm myself up a bit! 36.9 cold miles for me.

As I type this, my toes feel like they have chillblanes, and I am shivering uncontrollably. Time for a hot shower.
Cheers, Donger.

Overslept this morning & missed the club ride, so headed out at 10:15 on my own.

Had a nice ride in very cold conditions - forgot to put my overshoes on 8-(

Headed across to Blaise Castle, before dropping down to Lawrence Weston & Avonmouth cycled past the vast wind turbines.

Then joined the normally busy A403 coast road that runs up the Severn estuary to Aust.
Turned east & headed back towards Bristol through Olveston & climbing Sundays Hill at Almondsbury.

52kms in just over 2 hours & less than 300 metres of climbing

Took advantage of nice, sunny weather this morning, although cold, to do a 20 miles ride. When I got home, I logged my mileage on the computer, as I always do, and had a quick look at January 2014 entry, for curiosity. I was amazed to see that I had only done 28 miles in the whole of January 2014! The weather must have been awful last year then or was it me being very lazy?

Earlier this week I had decided that today I would attempt my first 50 mile ride, previous best having been 45. A dose of can't be bothereditis put paid to that plan (as I rolled over and fell asleep...), so I didn't get out until gone 9.30. Still enough time for a 30 mile jaunt, so headed out in the cold through Egham, up Egham Hill and through Englefield Green towards WGP. Bishopsgate was packed with cars this morning, looked like a formal run or some such event with lots of joggers around the park. Made my escape through Cranbourne Gate and enjoyed the 32mph decent of the A332, only one minor moment as 3 chaps came out of Rangers Gate to join the road and I wasn't sure they'd seen me. A quick 'eyes up lads' shout from me made sure they did, and from there it was a slog along Straight Road before a lap of Chertsey and home. Really need to tweak the saddle position on the CX, and flip the stem too, just can't be doing with being out in the cold doing it...
30.9 miles today, the 50 will have to wait.

First ride out today in over 6 months. No major issues other than being utterly useless and slow!! Felt quite unwell for most of it but got through it and no seizure was apparent. Lot's of frozen fog and ice on the roads and a nervy slosh through a frozen puddle without knowing what I was going through.

Glad I got the first one out of the way though even if it was very short. Plan now to build it up slowly again and keep hitting the country lanes around Staffordshire/Shropshire.
