NEWS. Its not raining!

Just 20 miles on a flat loop. Warm, dry, light breeze from the west and lots of the brotherhood and sisterhood taking advantage our 1 day of summer.

Just 33 miles, my first proper outing on the Ribble.
Because I've been working away in Manchester for the last month, staying in a cheap hotel, eating cr*p food and drinking Guinness most nights, I've only managed 8 miles in the last five weeks.
So today my legs feel like I've done 100, and the slopes I normally tap up have seemed like Ventoux, and most strange, my Lycra bulges in places it doesn't normally bulge

Some serious effort clearly required over the next couple of weeks.;)

Took my 2 eldest daughters (4 and 3) out on their maiden rides on their new child seat - bought on ebay for £2.20 - on the back of my mountain bike did 3 miles each with them, nice weather and pleasant cycling along the seafront. Nice moment for father and daughters out on a bike ride.

Did 22 miles today and met Scots_Lass for a few of them ~ It was lovely to meet you Scots_Lass

Met a few really nice people today, on the last five mile leg of my ride, I saw a guy in front maybe a quarter of a mile ahead and thought to myself I would see if I could catch him up. Nope I could not. Got talking to him in the carpark at the end and he said he turned round, saw me creeping up to him and started to cycle harder so I could not, it was so funny!;)

Here for rides.
Nice little 145km including 105km of "The Hell of Ashdown", one.. ahem... unplanned detour, and getting to the route and back from Gatwick Airport. The reputation of "The Wall" is overblown. Hell and the detour took 5:28 Nor too bad for an old fat bloke on a touring bike. All in all a very satisfying days riding. Off to the pub then cinema with the lovely Helen now.

just a quick 4 mile blast to test the new bike . Saddle too high but by crikey the 10 speed STi was a revelation......so smooth compared with the hackbike.

Aborted the 20 miler I had planned due to saddle height and decided to climb the steepest climb around for miles . Only 100mts but vertical ;)

I've been avoiding it all year because the last time I had to climb off and push whilst Mrs Peanut managed to get to the top on a shopping bike

Anyway I made it . it was the toughest thing I've done yet and its taken a year off my life but immense satisfaction.

Popped out to Geoff Butlers in Croydon after watching the tdf on the tele, ended up buying a lovely white cervelo jersey...

headed home via westerham, and i'm now very pleased that i did, even though it added at least 5 miles of climbing into the journey. as i headed along the a25 towards sevenoaks from westerham, i went past first one then another fully loaded tourers - the second of which yelled after me to ask about camp sites in the area. we pulled into a a pub car park where i told them about the only campsite i knew, but it was back the way they had already come, so of no use. we chatted for a few minutes and they had come from Finchley Park in north london that morning (hardly out of the ordinary) but they are headed ultimately for Istanbul !!  !! they hope to reach Turkey by October or so - really amazing, no wonder they had so much stuff with them !! So i left them, having wished them good luck, grinning from ear to ear - what an adventure they will have

After seeing tomorrows forecast, decided to do a ride today. Just done 34 miles riding around the Wirral, riding through places like Thornton Hough, Caldy and West Kirby.
