I always thought that those road signs on the A40 to 'The Barringtons' and 'The Rissingtons' were directions to a world of cocktail parties and country house murder mysteries. You, as an inhabitant of this world, have now aquired a kind of Frederick Forsyth dimension. I picture you in the study, inspecting the assegai used to slay poor Miss Rissington....

I see myself as more of a retired Jason Bourne than The Jackal, however my deductive skills are ledgendary my Dear Holmes

I should think you would be more correct with "My Dear Watson"? I am quite sure my nephew Thomas Pembleton-Jones would agree with me.

21 miles extended commute tonight
Outward bound against a breeze but managed some good speed once getting on the drops. Fairly flew past the very few people on that fantastic cyclepath between P'Boro and Whittlesea, then i was going to ride on to Eldernell (a hamlet almost on the edges of the Nene Washes) a few miles further....where the Marsh Harriers abound. Well 6 of them anyway.

Very rare bird, bigger than a Red Kite...but...i ran out of time so set off back with a side/tail wind. Another time perhaps.

As i chased through the estates, really motoring now, its surprising how many peoples heads followed me as i went past

Very pleased with the time...17mph average, my best for some time.

Had a great 20 miler along with my friends son (22 year old), who said and I quote "can ride me into the ground old man" ok we'll see .. even after offering some advice, "I can still beat you old man"

Me = Hybrid with specialized crossroad tyres
him = full suspension mountain bike with big knobbly tyres

Me = Bike kitted out to suit my riding style I.E seat hight / bars
Him = seat too low and too far forwards / handlebars high as they would go

me = light top / shorts / comfy shoes /hydration back pack / bananas / boost bars.
him = baggy T-shirt / top jacket / jeans / thick soled trainers / pop stuck in each pocket / nothing to eat.

Me = most enjoyable pace
him = riding around here there and everywhere.

He faded the last 3 miles (bless him) and walked the last mile home, even after I made adjustments to his bike to suit him more, the energy had all but gone, he even munched away my two boost bars plus an extra bottle of isotonic drink I brought along ( just in case)

Me = very content and relaxed
Him = I don't think he's going to sleep much tonight

Norm

I like that one Norman....it put a smile on my face

Did a 25 tonight (K34/25) and went under the hour! 59:44 I think. It was a bit of a lumpy course and I blew up with just under 5 miles to go as the headwind combined with some nasty uphill stretches tried to slow me down.

I crossed the finish line after sprinting to catch one final rider in front of me, yelling my number and then a huge "yesssss". Young Un can verify this as he rode up to the finish just in time to see me go through. I struggled back to the car at under 20km/h with no energy left. At least I can go to bed happy tonight.

I'm aching all over now, especially the calves, and got a bit of a sore spot where the shorts had ridden up.

I rather see Dellz as the great Sherlock Holmes rather than the bumbling fool Watson

Go faster of course! I think I might be able to better it on my home 25 if I do it in a couple of weeks... Next target is a short 22 '10'.

Aperitif and other Dun Runners - this doesn't mean you can all draft me ;)

willhub - Bournville is in the south of Birmingham, and the site of Cadburys. With the right wind, I can sometimes smell the chocolate from here... Irrelevant though because I don't eat it.

I am out in Majorca, staying in Port Soller. It is hot, very hot. I have rented quite a nice bike for the weekend, an Argon 18 - full carbon frame with Ultegra SL fitted. The problem with Port Soller as opposed to Port Pollenca is that there are no flat roads around here. As soon as you leave the Soller/ Port Soller area, you hit a hill with 6-10% gradient for the next 10-14 km. I managed 100km today and am goosed. It was seriously hard cycling. Just up or down - constant.
