Its cold and grey and drizzly out here in Lavenham! Wifey says SE london is sunny.
Been in fog for the last 4 hours, but (through the fug of post mcdonalds ringroad food) its starting to clear.
Did the usual Sunday morning 40 mile urban loop. Fairly uneventful but more wind than the previous weeks. Bit concerned that the Garmin didn't record the altitude data.
The only thing that happened was about halfway when I passed a slower cyclist at a roundabout. Concentrating on not hitting potholes and ironwork at 36km/h coming off the RAB, I forgot to say hi, and once I'd cleared the junction I heard an indignant "Morning" from behind. Given that I treat the middle section of my ride like a TT, I wasn't going to slow down so I just raised my hand. My apologies.
Yesterday I came up behind a cyclist and overtook when he was drinking and I said hi and he jumped out of his skin!!, I looked behind and said sorry and he looked odd at me.
out at 7.45am this morning for a 30 mile ramble, weather is so nice ended up doing 50 miles.
Home, along the A232 to Croydon, Mitcham, Morden, Wimbledon, Putney, over Putney Bridge, along the Thames Embankment via Millbank, Westminster, Embankment to London Bridge, back to Saarf Larndarn following the south of the Thames to Deptford, then Catford, Bromley, orpington and home... passed the x1000 miles cycled in 1 month for June.. so chuffed at that..
20 mile loop around Barling/Chalkwell (Essex) - first ride in my Look Keo pedals, went out early (7am) to avoid traffic and clipless moments. Although, I hadnt countered for a wasp/bee sting to the side of my head - was it because I was in my yellow/black Opel top or karma for my first clipless ride? Anyway, got back on and enjoyed my early morning jaunt and "felt" like a proper cyclist now in my shoes/pedals combo!!
102km Mother Shipton Audax from Easingwold. Didn't see the sun until around 14:00. Finished the ride in six hours and was still last one in - all the slower riders must have boycotted it because of the lumpy bits in it. Broke a couple of spoke in the rear wheel and some rudimentary re-truing got me round - pardon the pun...
I had a lovely ride today, very warm and lots of little storm flies everywhere. I cycled down lots of lovely country lanes there was one which was so picturesque with a railway track on one side and a corn field on the other. It was so quiet although you could hear the birds and also the wind rustling through the corn field. Over all I did about 20 miles and I have improved my average speed which was around 11 Mph and that was on a mountain bike. I know other people do more we it comes to average speed but I was chuffed.
36 miles this afternnon...28 of them with SWMBO on her hybrid...the girl done good
Quick stop in a pub...walked into the bar, cycling shorts, top and Shimano shoes on....one local wit said to me...'How'd you get here ?'....the bar erupted then someone asked if i was Chris Hoy. Ah well, it gave them some light hearted entertainment, then retired to the beer garden.
On to Eldernell, no Marsh harriers to be seen....but you need bino's anyway, so it'd have been a miracle anyway.
Return journey saw us riding for 100 yards with 2 Goldfinches flying alongside / just in front.
Home, (after the 28) then a quick sprint to the chinese for takeaway, our first proper meal of the day at 6pm
Just 20.92 miles for me today, and it was a recovery ride so was only meant to be average 18 mph, but I got bored of trundling through town at 15 mph to get my average down from 18.9 so just gave up, and ended up average 18.5 mph. Was really nice, roads were deserted, and there was a nice cool breeze.
