Don't get cocky Steveo

Go try 18-19mph over a 130 miles.

I don't do shorts rides so my averages tend to be around 18-20 most of the time, the only time I break into the 20+ is TT's

If I am taking it steady, spinning, not using any effort, not having to breath much, then I'm doing around 14-15, which is slow but that's recovery, but I rarely do that unless I'm commuting, so I'm not slow, but I'm not fast either, I don't think I'm slow, I'm sure if we went up a hill the gap would not be so wide I'm faster on the hills than on the flat, not in terms of speed obviously.

No it wouldn't, as I have rather big legs and a bit of a belly, so I am no suited for climbing. Distances aren't what a young cyclist should be doing anyway, especailly if he wants to get faster, as it has been proven that short sharp blasts are the way to go;)

How much do you weight? I'm similar I guess, I have pretty big legs and a belly which I'd rather not have, am around 5ft 9-11 and 11.5-12 stone. Short sharp blasts? Intervals? Yea I know, I'm planning on doing the same when my knee is 100% sorted.

I weigh about 80kg - I am a heavy weight, and am 5"10.

Well not completely intervals, some are needed, but riding for 10/20/30 miles often at a very hard pace is much better than doing 130 miles at slower speeds.

Just got back from a hot 175k and had a cold shower .

From north of Morecambe to Glasson Dock then through Fleetwood, Blackpool and Lytham then to Preston and round the back of Winter Hill and home.

I've seen some sights and thoroughly enjoyed it

Aye, this was my holiday for the year and I must admit it's been brilliant.

the weather helped a lot, I've seen loads of family including my niece and my dog, drank quite a lot of beer and wine and done a few miles to boot.

A measly but logistically worthy 14 miles to town and back this arvo.

Was going to make more of a trip of it, but it was SOOO bloody hot out there on the roads that I just didn't fancy it at 2 o'clock.

Gawld, i wish i'd had the chance. I did a very fast (for me) 40 miles two years ago when the temps were 32 degrees....the sweat just ran off me...and i loved every minute of it. Love the heat

Like you, a paltry 10 to 15 miles commute for me with a bloomin rucksack .

Funny thing is...and i'd like to know what happens to you other guys...i can ride hard, sweat like a pig....but i dont smell :evil: Never do...well, obviously a bit...but not much at all really

in the winter you want to be doing longer rides ( although only like the 70 mark...)

as this will help alot with overall strength, and stamina...

and yeah 18 is far to fast for recovery pace, im 5.9 and weight 57 kilo's, finish top just outside of the top 10 in national races so am not exactly slow

i do recovery rides at like 15mark...

the best bet is to go of hr anyways... you can be more tired some days then others so 18 will feel harder and easier at differant times...

 'big up' Mark - sounds like you have had a grand time - especially with your mate, 'The Determinator' Nice that you could sniff behind the dog's ears too!
