I did just over 42 miles today, it was funny, coming back home again, I passed a guy on his bike, he was going a wee bit slow for me,. Then I was aware for the next four miles, he was right on my bum, so eventually I ask if I am holding him up. No he says, you are encouraging me to go faster, so he thanked me

Across north London to the Lordship rec, then a few hours encouringing the locals to ride penny-farthings and the like.
I was helping out Roger (the Hilldodger of this parish) who was doing a roadshow there. I don't normally turn up at random playing fields with a van full of bikes, lovely though that would be...

I did 163.5kms of beautiful cycling in good company (excluding self of course:tongue:.) This forum works wonders (© Double Diamond) and the sun was shining. If you haven't been able to get on your bike today - grasp the opportunity tomorrow if you can!

So I went to Asda to do my shopping, stuffed my panniers full of groceries and I was joyfully riding along Woolwich Road, when all of a sudden I hear a weird metallic sound. Turns out the metal hook that's supposed to hold the pannier in its place fell off and found its new home on one of the spokes. Oh well.

You've inspired me!

I'm off out on a 100km Audax. Done a last minute e-entry for a mesh ride. Wetherby, Selby and York here I come.

Yesterday I did a paltry 0.5 km from a friend's house to a decent vantage point and back to see the tour of Britain sweep through Pocklington.

10 mile sprint(ish) 7.30am thought i would beat the weather, it appears that most of the bike owners in my area (start to think I had ridden into a sportive) had the same idea, did it in 29 min, appears im getting better at this cycle stuff. 25 miles tomorrow (day off work kids at school) ;)

Great ride today.... with Longers and Dan_bo.

Met us at Surrosa bikes in Oldham, then started climbing up to Buckstones, dunno where we went from there but ended up in Slaithwaite - fair head wind.

Dan spotted a cafe, and what a cafe............, pint of tea and an egg butty, £1.95, and the tea was spot on.......

Then headed back down the A62 towards Huddersfield (nearly ended up doing a short cut), before going for Holmfirth.

Then started the loooonnnngggg climb up Saddleworth. We regrouped 3/4 of the way up, then carried on. Most of the descent's so far had been fairly slow, into a headwind....... going down into Greenfield was a belter.....

Sustained 40mph plus, 42 usually, with a max of 44..... I was following demon descender dan....... the bends were flowing...brill.... just chucked the bikes through the bends.....

All buzzing by the end........

Saw some parts I've not been to for a long time, and it's not far from my home - I usually go South and East, but was great to go North and East for a change..... fantastic scenery.....

Odd sights.....a purple coffin trailer towed by a motorbike trike (me and dan missed the trailer, but spotted the bikes), 'hissed' up old gits outside a pub (at 1.00pm).....and some chav's in Staley Vegas said 'all right' after dan let on to them.....I thought we'd get done over...........

Great ride, and 60 miles for me. PS Dan's been on his hols, as he kept reminding us........ somewhere sunny, hot, lots of beer/wine...etc.... xx(

Had a nice lazy ride this morning, about 18 miles in 75min, quite windy out but kept to sheltered roads etc. Not much to report except the wind was also lazy. I really should do a decent distance on a bike. It's been ages since I cycled more than 30 miles in one go.

My trip today was to see the ToB. Must have put in a 50 mile round trip. First I rode up to the KoM climb at Langley, and watched the guys come through. Then followed the route down into Rowlands Gill before cutting across to Gateshead for the finish.

Thanks to the guy on the red cannondale who I rode with through to Gateshead, I think we set a far pace!

If you'd told me a year ago that I would be riding the famous Trough of Bowland from my home I'd have laughed at you. Well today I did it, partly solo and partly in the company of a very fit woman cyclist from Pendleton, which helped the miles go by. Out from Blackburn, down to Whalley, past Chipping and round the top, shot down the trough and stopped in Dunsop Bridge (geographical centre of the UK) for a coffee then the steep climb oposite the Inn at Whitewell (aargh! a killer on tired legs!) and thence home via Whalley again. 55 miles at 14.1 mph. Then out on the MTB with the family!

Well, I fixed my gears. Don't know exactly what it was as the hanger didn't look bent. I took off the rear mech and jockey wheels and gave them a good clean, there was a tiny bit of sheeps wool wrapped around the lead jockey so I suspect that didn't help.

Had to take a trip to Halfrauds to pick up a gear cable as my old one had frayed when I took the mech off. Thankfully I had some spare outers knocking about the house as the old ones looked a bit manky. So everything now works smoothly again.

Naturally whilst Mr Plax was sleeping in the chair under the guise of watching the F1 I took the opportunity to test ride it. Went up Marchlyn Mawr which was a nice ride. Top speed of 45.5mph going back down - I was buzzing! Previous top speed of 41mph. Thankfully I wasn't offed by a sheep wandering across the path or it would have been a bit of a mess, what with me in shorts & t-shirt and no helmet.
