Had two amazing Trans-Canada tours, coast to coast. (A busy day reading Crazy Guy on a Bike and hatching plans.)
they are so preoccupied with other things and the urgency of their journey.
We are all guilty of that I guess.

Got up early and shot off into Chichester along the A259 and back...lovely sunny morning with a bit of a wind...traffic behaved for a change...sprinted all the way there with a tailwind on my slutty bike celeste

A quick blast after work, 18 miles. Quite eventful in a nice way.
Out to Whittlesea on my favourite cyclepath alongside the river. A little exposed to the elements, but NO traffic.
Saw the puffballs growing in the same field as last year. Maybe 50 of them, about the size of small footballs. They'll keep growing. I'm not going to be tempted to eat them this year
Turned round and set off, knowing i've got a target, a guy on an Orbea that'd passed 5 minutes before in the opposite direction. Caught him up, he was'nt hanging about either. I always say 'coming through' so's not to startle anyone....but it did startle him a little bit. We exchanged a few words (nothing bad)..one of which was 'bloody hell, that doesnt happen very often'...the fact that i'd overtaken him
Got into traffic back in Peterborough, and commited a sin i've never done before....clattered someones wing mirror by accident I was trying to sqeeze through stationary traffic and going too slow. Caught his mirror and knocked it back. Apologised to the guy and slipped it back into place...and onwards. He seemed very relaxed about it....i hope.
Saw a teenager on a fixed or singlespeed, with his mates on BMXs...very nice and minimalist it was. Only the second one i've seen in Peterborough, and he looked kinda cool on it.
Early on in the ride, i was squeezing through stationary traffic, and at one stage i thought 'why am i bothering for the sake of 5 cars'...only to get to the front of the queue and see a PCSO doing exactly the same on the opposite side of the road..

46 miles today, I thought I'd take a long cut in Church Fenton but judging by the stats and map it appears to be a short cut of about a mile!! I thought it was a still day but it became apparent there was quite abit of breeze and some small gusts going on, the atmosphere felt like winter which I like, I had winter kit on, gloves etc.. My orange juice in the bottles was nice and cold for once, really good day.
Broke my PB for this loop today, 3rd time I've done it.

In some cases, that's true...and understandable, if that;s the right term.
But not in this case. Bright yellow jacket...she came up behind me slowly, held back a little, then slowly put the bonnet alongside me. I could have put my hand on it without even trying. If she'd made it any further, the wing mirror would have been an inch off my hip...luckily this was all at slow speed.
This is unforgiveable in my book...hence the smack on the side window. To be fair, as i said, she put her hand up in apology when she got in front. Respect to her for that.

Same ride as last night, its been really quite warm but windy here.
Averaged 16.5 mph. Several things spring to mind.
At 51, i'm never going to get that much faster (if i do the mileage regularly, i can push out 18mph average over 40 miles...but i have to push hard)
Two fast rides (by my standards) in two days...i can feel it. My recovery isnt as fast as it used to be.
How the hell do time triallers push out an average of 20mph plus
. I already know the answer of course. They started younger and do more miles.

I was looking at the results for some 50 odd time trial, people even in there 50's, even some woman, averaging 25-28mph over that distance!! I'd be hard pushed to do 21 me!
