Over the line for this month qualifying ride in the Imperial century a month challenge with this weekend's cycling shenanigans.
Out of the door at sunrise for a ride to Manston for brekkie. Zero planes, but one helicopter 🚁
A lovely mild temperature day with fabulous tail winds for the ride there, pushing me along at a fair rate of knots. But it did mean I faced full on headwinds for the return.
I haven't been out on a long bike ride since the beginning of August due to Lumbago. (Bad back) But medication and massages seemed to have sorted it, with only a mild twinge. So all good.

Glad to be back in the city after a few days at the homestead, it was straight out on the Fuji for a gentle utility waft on a gloriously warm and sunny autumn afternoon.

Nothing remarkable; a bit of trimming including some sustained butchery of a load of dense, overhanging dead brambles to clear the path through; which was rewarding compared to just lopping off the occasional dangling cane from above.

Picked up a few unexcitingly-priced basics from the shop, test-rode the freshly-opened-after-three-years Botley road railway bridge and hung my head at the returning misery of dickheads queued bumper-to-bumper from the town centre to the ring road

Stopped for a bit of a dangle in the park and got a few pops from my neck. I beautiful day with a fantastic jungle soundtrack; marred occasionally by tiredness and worry. As always I'm doubtless in a better state than had I not gone out at all.


Twatty traffic..

There are dedicated pavements and bike lanes on either side of the new bridge; however as usual they've made a bollocks of the latter with entry and exit seemingly expected to occur at the mouths of junctions along with some mishmash pseudo-pedestrian crossings with zero meaningful attempt to merge smoothly with the road.. so that's going to cause conflict and like most other "cycling infrastructure" in the city is evidently best avoided

I’d like that route. Plenty of water / Coast to see there 👌 Similar story for me today (Comimg home into a headwind). Of course I did less than 1/3 of your ride.

Didn’t realise what a noisy bunch us cyclists are….. 🤣

Not surprising on the Dunwich Dynamo (And going through various Villages all night long) there was plenty of remits on the FB ride group to ‘Keep the noise down’ on the night.

Your camera / videos are great btw. Does it take long to save / edit / upload etc - a few after the ride as you have done ?

It just takes seconds to plug it in, minutes to do the minimal editing I do (usually to crop out a little clip), 15-30s to export and a couple of minutes for it to go into YouTube and for them to process it.

Might be unrelated but when I first moved into this estate. When it was half built and silent. I left very early for a long ride and there was something posted about banning bikes on the residents Farceboke page. The poster got immediately shot down by about 15 people and no one supported them before it was deleted, which is reassuring.

The ride (I don’t see it as a commute - infact the car ‘feels’ dirty these days) in….

Took a different route through; rather than around my Seaside home Town of Lowestoft today. Which made a change. I didn’t feel great yesterday. So absolutely decided to bike today. And as ever - feel better for it now.

Nothing like a quick blast to clear the lungs. And Grey matter 👊

Thank. Yep it's a great route, You can do 25 miles along the sea from Whitstable all the way round to Ramsgate. It's part of what is called the Viking Trail. Great in good weather, not so good in bad.

I've had Lumbago for over six weeks now. I take Methocarbamol which is a muscle relaxant which really helps, along with massages and deep heat. I honestly thought this time my luck had run out and I wouldn't be able to continue with the monthly challenge. But my siezed back decided to calm the feck down. I did ask the Doc about cycling and thankfully he said no need to stop.

The challenge started on this very forum back in 2010. In that time I have had some injures and illnesses and not forgetting lockdown but luckily none that stopped me managing to get a qualifying ride done for the month. My target is 240 months. By that time I will be 64. Maybe, just maybe time to call it a day or maybe not. Who knows.

24 degrees leaving work at 4.15pm according to Strava. Felt it too. With just a slight breeze in my face at first: coming off the sea from the East. Pretty much perfect cycling weather. Or for anything outdoors to be fair 😁

A good pace line tonight and thankfully folk indulged me in my desire to Avoid Holme Road. It was ripped up bad enough a few weeks back but the harvest tractors, trailers etc have ripped it up a lot more. Its like the Mariana Trench in places, ideal not for a fast group ride as light is fading!

We were 23mph for the bit without lights for the 24miles without traffic lights (Harolds Cross to the top of Farcet hill)
