Have you got a rough idea how long it will take? Hope it goes well and the weather is good.

I will estimate 20 kmh, so probably 3hr 15 minute. Could do with a buddy to tag along as gets very boring on your own. I met up with someone a yr or so back but he was a lot lighter and sais he could average 24kmh no problem. I learn from my mistakes

I have been back at this cycling lark since 2009 but I have lost very little weight, so a bit disappointed with that, but it wont stop me cycling as I enjoy it

Woke up at 4.45am, rain had gone it was +8 and I thought why not.
Same ride as my last leisure ride, just 40km but 10 minutes faster.
1 minute faster up the same cat 4 climb(fastest time on the tourer) with plenty left in the tank at the top, all bodes well for when the road bike comes out of hibernation:thumbsup:.

shorter spin than planned but happy with 45 km for today. It was fairly wet but was not raining which is a plus. Ended up at 9 deg c when I arrived home. I went a slightly different route to add in a few climbs to try and get some fitness back. They were short but garmin was showing 11 percent gradient in places. Had to drop to the small ring today....... same hills last year was using 53 by 34 (this is probably small ring ratio anyways )

were all off to my wifes 40th party tonight so was a bit time constrained today..... plus only left at 7 am when I should have been gone at 6 am. Loads of sprucing up to be done today so will check in later.

Lovely ride this morning. After a few cautious exploration rides earlier in the month, I finally made it to Yatton and back via the Nailsea Wall and Kennmoor Road (North Somerset). I'm definitely not in the shape I was a year ago (dead envious, BSRU -- a full minute is amazing!), but hopefully ramping up my mileage will cure that.

55 miles to Wheelock Hall farm this morning.

I've not been feeling right all week, had a dull ache on arm between my bicep and elbow (had visions of angina for a while:rolleyes:) and bonked on last saturday's ride with @Hacienda71 which was a real schoolboy error. So, I wasn't sure how I'd get on today and didn't want to feel any pressure of keeping up with the lads.

It took me a while to get out of bed and to convince myself to get out. Left the house at 8am rather than the intended 7am, oh well. Pretty stiff wind all the way there picking my way along a usual route. Felt good enough to push on along the way back and now am home am glad I did it. Still not "right" but mentally better:smile:

Back out after a week of carp weather and me coughing like a 100 a day Capstan user.
So it was slow going and each uphill seemed like it went on forever. Add to that it was windy, I mean, WINDY.
Even so I can say I still enjoyed it.
I can say that NOW of course. At the time, while it was going on, I was cursing and cussing, promising myself I'd never be seen on a bike again.

Did I mention it was windy ?

Weather forecast was dry, with the wind increasing throughout the day so planned an early start. That didn't quite happen but got out at 10 for a nice loop around Malmesbury, the rain held off and sunshine even made an appearance but that wind certainly did increase on the homeward leg.

I'm pleased with 42 miles, 2000ft of upness and a 17mph average given I pretty much did no cycling during November and December.

Now the wind has really whipped up and the showers have started but a slightly hyper looking Collie tells me that doesn't bother him and it's time we went out for a walk.....

Managed to drag myself out of bed this morning for what I thought would be an agonising ride with my cycle group - I've been feeling really slow and tired all week and had visions of needing to go home after the first few miles. Somehow my request for a slow and gentle ride led to me being volunteered to lead the ride: cue lots of poking and prodding of the brain hamsters to spur them into action as I desperately tried to make it up as we went along.

"Jo, do you know where we're going?"
"Yes, of course..."

Despite my misgivings (and moments of panic), the fresh air, faint but determined sunshine, and steady rhythm of pushing the pedals slowly began to work their magic and by the time we reached the junction where we were meant to turn left for my "slow and gentle ride", I was feeling much more energetic so spontaneously changed my mind and led the group of a dozen or so cyclists along the edge of and then up onto the Quantocks, which came as a bit of a surprise to them all...

"So that was the short, easy route was it?"
"Yeah..."
"Well give me some warning if you do a tough ride!"

"Well that was a typical Jo ride ... 20 miles to get to a coffee stop just a few miles from the centre of town!"
"And it's not the first time she's pulled that trick!"

:rolleyes::tongue:

Tired now though.

Managed to get out with @Rickshaw Phil and his brother Doug for a much needed ride to de-stress a bit from the current trauma we are going through in our family.

Headed out in nice sunshine, with bit of a breeze blowing and through the Sundorne estate to the Sports Village. As we crossed the main road into the Sports Village car park I thought I heard Phil utter the words "OH NO" from behind me and sure enough, as we proceeded towards the track down towards the river, Phil came to a halt and informed us he had a flat tyre!! We were only about 1 & 1/4 miles into the ride, which seems to be a common occurrence on rides the 3 of us go on!

Phil spent the next 20 minutes fixing the puncture, whilst Doug and I very helpfully took photo's and organised our activites for this evening ^_^

It turned out that Phil had picked up a small piece of glass somewhere on the journey through the estate and so he carefully pulled that out of the tyre and we were on our way again.

We continued down to the old canal path, which was quite muddy and slippy and then out onto the road at Uffington. We came up behind a young girl on a horse, with a small box van providing her escort from behind and we overtook and turned onto the Upton Magna road. We came up behind another horse, but they galloped off into a field and so we climbed up to Upton Magna and then up Haughmond Hill, which didn't seem too steep this time!

By now the wind was picking up and when passing gaps in the hedges it was blowing the bikes around a bit. We proceeded down the lovely mile and a half straight, cruising at 20 mph and passed our third horse of the trip. The roads were very wet with lots of puddles about and a few small floods across the roads.

We continued on into Rodington, Longdon on Tern and then Isombridge. The road at Isombridge is quite rutted and there was more and more water appearing on the roads and we came to this:-

It didn't look too deep........and so @Rickshaw Phil went 1st.......................... and it was DEEP!!! He expertly managed to get through without wet feet and then Doug and I went through, dipped our feet well below the water and I had to bail out my shoes :cold::cry:

It was then route 81 back up to Upton Magna, Uffington and along the canal path, through an ever increasing strong headwind. About 1 & 1/2 miles from home the :rain:that we had seen approaching over the Stretton Hills arrived, in exactly the same spot as my last ride! We donned waterproofs and @Rickshaw Phil headed home whilst Doug and I headed back to mine, as Doug had brought his bike over in his car. It was like climbing a steep hill for the last mile as the wind was so strong we were struggling to reach 5 MPH on the flat.

We arrived home and about 20 mins after we got back there was a flash of lightning, big rumbles of thunder and monsoon rain and hail!! Good timing to miss that!

A very enjoyable and much needed ride for me.

21.16 miles at 10.1 mph avg speed (badly affected by the headwind)

I rode out to @gavgav's for a gentle tour around the Upton Magna and Rodington area this morning. Doug (my brother) was also joining us but he brought his bike over in the car.

With showers forecast for midday onwards we'd planned to leave by 10.30, which we managed to do okay. However, we'd only got as far as Shrewsbury Sports Village when I detected a tell-tale bounciness from the back of my bike - a puncture. I'd picked up a small chunk of glass. Twenty minutes later though all was fixed and we were back on the road to Upton Magna.

The wind was fairly strong today which gave us a boost out of town and up Haughmond Hill, before we descended the long straight to Rodington and along the lanes to Longdon-on-Tern. I caused a bit of consternation along this road when I spotted a photo opportunity and being at the back of the group Doug and Gav didn't notice for a while. They thought I'd had another puncture.

Turning back towards Isombridge the wind was now against us so lower gears were selected and we rode on at a gentler speed. These lanes are low lying and pretty wet in places, so I suppose it was inevitable that we'd come across a flooded section at some point, which of course we did. I rode through first and found it to be fairly deep but I just managed to keep my feet dry. Doug and Gav followed and got wet feet. While they emptied their shoes a couple in a BMW X6 drove gingerly through the flood - it was up to the sills.

Carrying on, the wind really seemed to be picking up now so we were quite slow back to Upton Magna. On the way from there to Uffington there is a long descent which we would normally cruise down at around 22 to 25 mph. Today, even pedalling hard it was just 16 at best.

By this point rain clouds were gathering and the Long Mynd had already disappeared from view and light rain started a mile or so further down the road. I therefore parted from Doug and Gav in the Sundorne area and started back home hoping to get back before the worst of it started.

The wind was really blowing by now (steady wind in the 20's and gusting to 46 mph according to the Met Office) and accompanied by frequent showers. As I was riding directly into it it was a struggle just to keep moving - the speed was down to 5mph in places. I haven't found that section so tough in years.:heat:. I managed to rip my rain cape on the way back too - not happy about that.

I'd got back and was just removing the rack bag when there was a tremendous crash of thunder. Cue torrential rain, hail, dark skies and frequent lightning. If I'd taken just 5 minutes longer getting back I'd have been caught out in it.

29.9 miles at 10.5 mph average. The main part of the ride was enjoyable  but I could have done without some of the "incident".

Took the MTB out this afternoon to ride some of South Gloucestershire's very muddy bridlepaths

EDIT : I've now dried out & washed my kit, got hit by a massive hailstorm within 500 metres of my house, had to take shelter behind a Premier Inn/Beefeater sign ! The roads literally filled with water/hail  it certainly slowed the traffic down !
