Up at my usual stupid o'clock yesterday with the intention of reaching the Trig Point on Mam Tor by sunrise.
Parking in Castleton, I walked up the old Mam road but turned off, up a footpath to the ridge, before the landslide section.
I made it but the sunrise didn't!! I was greeted, instead, by a spectacular cloud inversion...
From there, I headed down to the roadway where there were already hoards of cars parked up at the top of Winnats Pass.
My plan was to walk along the top of Winnats and look down into the valley. Sadly, beautiful as it was, it was full of fog!
Next time, maybe I'll actually see something 😂
Looks like a local monster chewed up the signpost but I was following my map anyway.. 👍
As routed, I walked through the mist and descended via Cave Dale, with Peveril Castle looming above, a bridleway I've walked & cycled up before but never walked down it. It's tougher on the legs going down than it is up.. Slippery, too!
Once back at the car, I got the Brommie out of the boot for a few miles around Castleton & local lanes. I took my swimming gear with me in case I fancied a dip in Hathersage open air piol but, in the end, I didn't go having been on Thursday afternoon.
Only 8 miles hiked & similar ridden, but enough to know I'd done it! 😋
