Boughton Postbox with one of these infernal solar things that stop the local lady knitting a Topper ☹️

Anyway, 3 miles & feeling quite warm when I got back..

The weather looked lovely out of the window but, blimey, that wind was cold!! I'm glad I took my hat 🥳

I started from the garden centre by Harleston Firs & wandered through some of it before crossing fields to Upper Harleston village. Most of the area is owned by the Spencee family (of Lady Diana fame)

A spring in Upper Harleston with cool, clear, clean looking water but I doubt id drink it unless it was totally necessary!

I've never seen so much wild garlic in one place.. Must be an acre at least.

Not sure what happened to the rest of it 🤷‍♂️

The Parish church of St Andrew in between Upper & Lower Harleston.

Being a very affluent area, this is The Stables! Even the horses are rich 😂

Anyway... 5 miles walked in alternating warm & cold weather but mainly sunny ☀️

A fairly busy day in two parts..
Kiddos at school, offf on the bike to local country park and walked, cycled, mooched, and stood around for an hour or so looking for birdlife.

This evening, kiddos gone to my daughters for the evening..took the dog out into disused brickpits for an hours walk.
Two roe deer several hundred metres away and a Robin appeared on a branch literally 6ft away from me and just sat there...watching me
Dog ran his heart out up there, its about the only place I can let him run free, he's far too boisterous in the presence.of people or other dogs.

Last Friday, I had a day off so left the alarm on for stupid o'clock to drive to Rowsley, near Matlock, for a hike I'd planned a couple of weeks ago.

Starting in darkness across the fields to Edensor, a village with a slightly strange history (worth looking up!) I found the memorials I'd read about at the top of the churchyard; President JFK plaque for the visit to his sister's grave.

Barely readable now.. 🤷‍♂️

Still quite misty, I headed towards Chatsworth House via Paine's Bridge thence past the front of the main house to the woodlands beyond.

I've visited the grounds before several times so didn't hang around long. Also, it was quite nippy in the mists!
I was hoping to see a herd of deer but they were elsewhere or having a lay in, possibly 🤷‍♂️

The woodlands were alive with the dawn chorus and totally devoid of people (except me) Later in the day I guess it'd be quite busy with visitors. Once out of the trees and crossing Beeley moor to the wonderfully named Hell Bank plantation & it's waterfalls it got nice and warm in the welcome sunshine.

Where I'd parked in the the village wasn't good to fire up the stove for a packet of pasta stuff & a coffee so I found a place by the river nesr Matlock Bath to brew up..

Just over 11½ miles & very happy to say that I didn't see a solitary person around. A couple of cars in the distance but that doesn't count!
