Well.. Up st stupid o'clock to drive to Stow on the Wold for a hike I'd planned a while ago. Last time, the weather was better in the Peak District so I went North instead of South West..
With sunrise at 04:50 ish, I guessed I'd not have much darkness to contend with but, as the first mile or so was on roads, I had a red bike light on my rucksack plus a torch so I could be seen if necessary.

Being nice and early, there were very few people around Bourton.. So peaceful before the hoardes of visitors arrive later in the day as it's such a beautiful village!!

Anyway, back to the car on 13½ miles, 2 miles further than my planned route, but I'd expected that as I meandered around a few of the villages on the way.

Looks a fun jaunt Pete…..great pics 👌

And funnily enough: the Dynamo has popped up ‘again’ on my radar today. How many have you done ?

Thanks; yes, it was!
The route took in lots of ancient pathsplus some newer ones, too: Monarch's Way, Macmillan Way, Warden's Way, Gloucestershire Wsy, & Heart of England.

I've done the Dunwich Dymamo twice. Once with a friend whose wife met us with a gaz stove, fry-up breakfast & beer at 04:30 and drove us home.
Second time was solo and was my longest ever single ride as I got a lift back in one of our trucks from Lowestoft. Just under 150 miles.

Id have thought 3 or 4 miles today, wet wer wet, took the brolly and a bridge camera just in case but I think everything is just hunkered down.
Into a local country park, not many people around unsurprisingly, a couple of the regulars.
Little Egret up in some trees, as was a Heron and Cormorant, four Ring Neck Parakeets, some young Whitethroat, lots of Dunnock etc etc
Back now, tea and pancake with lemon juice, relax time then look what I can do indoors..

Up at stupid o'clock for a Father's Day solstice sunrise walk with daughter & our couple of dogs to catch the summer solstice sunrise over Pitsford Reservoir.
She picked me up at 04:00 for the 10 minute drive to Brixworth where we walked down to the res..

Weirdly, about 25 - 30 cars drove past us on the lane to the parking. I thought it might be a fun-run (two words I never associate with each other!!) Turns out it was an ooen-water dawn swim.. That I could cope with 😂

DSC_7851.JPG

Anyway. We didn't do the 7 mile circuit as it's a bit long for Bonnie the Bischon now.

Teddy the bonkers Cockerpoo like a photo op, too 😂

Just over 4 miles, chatting all the time before heading back home for more coffee & a morning kiss for MrsPete as she arose from her pit.. 👍

Back, knackered, from a couple of days solo camping in the Peak District 🏕️

A planned hike from Castleton, up a really steep scramble to the top of Winnats Pass.
Last time I was there it was full of fog and I couldn't see a thing!! 😅
DSC_7886.JPG

DSC_7888.JPG

This was even steeper than it looks here! At least 45° on slippery loose rocks.
Still, dragging myself up by the fenceposts, I made it 👌

And again, once it was lighter.

Having walked along the top if the pass, I descended via the roadside track.
Pic looking back up with tge ridge top left of pic being my route..

A place I'd wanted to stop at a few times: Odins Mine on Old Mam Road.

DSC_7940.JPG

And a gate I liked the look of where I'd parked in Castleton.

As it was still quite early, I was lucky to find somewhere for a cappuccino & pain au chocolat (poncy, I know, but they were open 😂)

Finished on about 9 miles before it got too warm.. 🔆

After leaving Castleton, I managed to find a free parking space in Hathersage!
I'd wanted to 'find' the stepping stones across the River Derwent for a while, so took the opportunity of a 3½ mile cool-down walk..

There's one very wonky stepping stone that requires a bit of a leap of faith to pass 🦘

It was getting near lunchtime by now so I grabbed a few snacks in Hathersage, before heading to the campsite, & took a look around Alpkit as I was there 😁

After setting up the tent, I drove to ~EYAM ~ (pronounced Eeeem) the plague village. Well worth a wander around!

I also got the Brommie out of the car for a bimble around the places too far away to walk.

Smashing day, all in all 👌

Pt 3: Yesterday's hike.
Up at 02:00 to leave the campsite by 02:30 to drive the few miles to Baslow where my planned hike commenced up Bar Road that climbs from the village to Baslow Edge. It's a steady plod, that I've done a couple of times before, & happy to do it in the relative cool of pre-dawn...

Just normal cows, not the Baslow Herd.. They were elsewhere on the Edges, I guess.

DSC_8001.JPG

White Edge Trig Point is about 5 miles in, the highest point of the hike, and I wanted to be there for the sunrise.. Made it with time to spare.

The closest I could get before I spooked it! 😋

Froggat & Curbar Edges are lovely with stunning views from the top. Photos (well, at least mine) never seem to do it justice!

DSC_8029.JPG

Dropping down from Curbar Edge, I missed the footpath i'd planned which was quite lucky, I reckon, as looking up towards it from near Curbar village, it was virtually closed by ferns & nettles.. Not a good combination whilst wearing shorts 😂
Anyway, the few 100 yards on a road wasn't a problem.
The good thing about starting early is the lack of people 🤗

Bubnell bridge over the River Derwent.

Back in Baslow on 11 miles I called in at a CO OP for a couple of bottles of cokd water to slake my thirst.

Crackin' hike even though I've done some of the route before.

Unfeasibly after last night's 5hrs of kip and 05:00 13-miler to the rings and back, I got in a reasonable walk in as the edge was apparently just starting to come off the heat at the end of the afternoon.

Having gone full man-from-Delmonte in defiance of the sun I headed through the woods towards town. This portion was surprisingly tolerable thanks to the shade and my attire; and only mildly spoiled by encountering a scrote on an illegal e-motorbike..

Once in town I headed towards the covered market, giving a wide berth to the intimidatingly large black dude on Cornmarket who was alternating between singing snippets of soulful classics very loud / almost well, and random, shouty tics.

I'd intended to do dinner on the cheap with a wrap from the Lebanese, but it was shut so I made do with a reduced wrap from Boots which was... underwhelming, however I can't complain for a quid fifty.

Onward to find a pub with Wifi as I'd taken the laptop - part of the sell being to do something "productive" somewhere cooler than the intolerable heat of the flat. The mission was partially fulfilled as where I ended up was still pretty facking baking hot.

One robustly-priced Guinness Zero down and I headed out, passing the big black dude again who this time was shirtless but quiet; which on balance was an improvement. initially assuming I'd probably bus it back, I ended up walking all the way home along the river; bumping into a few new acquaintances and getting an invitation out for the weekend, which was nice

Finally I did the last portion along the river at the edge of the meadow as a beautiful clear, moonlit dusk descended.

About 10.6 miles which I reckon is pretty good given the circumstances. Not sure I'll feel so enthusiastic tomorrow, however have hopefully limited the misery with a few stretches on the living room floor..
