There was healthy trade in complete tree trunks from our region of Germany to Amsterdam: they'd be tied together in rafts and floated down river. Many of the buildings in Amsterdam are still built on piles from trees felled in this region.

Interesting ! I’m sure Andy……And if you took away the piles, the bikes and the water: the City would self implode into nothing 🤣

This Mornings early walk was very enjoyable. But unremarkable. Even accounting for the (Forecast) strong Wind. *Other than the sharp wind and ‘Feels like 0c’ - as per my Strava Weather app. That got my attention - and seems to have come around fast !

Lovely 7½ miles walk around Pitsford Reservoir with some of the family, granddaughter was at uni, on my 74th birthday this morning. Beautiful sunshine but still a blustery breeze blowing..

Disappointment at the café, though, as the ice-cream section only had vegan almond Magnums 🤮 or Minecraft lolly's.

Children are on half term and they can be a bit lazy...so c'mon kids, let's go to our local country park, I will sort.ypu out a little camera each and we can all take pictures of the birds.
So maybe a mile walked around a lake...cameras were pretty pointless, too many noisily children (mine included)...but a chance for some fresh air and a cuppa in the cafe

My 12yr old grandson was with us this morning.. 👍

Lovely hike in the Peak District with a friend plus Bonnie for some of the route yesterday ..
Parking in Castleton, the three of us headed up Cavedale for about a mile before it got too rocky for Bonnie 🦮

Once back into the village, I fed her and settled her down in the car while mate and I left for our scramble up the side of Winnats Pass.. Definitely the steepest access to the top, but fun!

The view once you get there is wonderful..

Next bit of up was to Mam Tor, a place I've walked to several times and cycled to once!

Strangely empty of people for a change!!
The route back to Castleton was via the landslide road and Odins Mine where we stopped for a quick explore.

When we got back to the car, we wandered around the village and up towards Peak Cavern and the castle with Bonnie before driving to Hathersage for lunch. (Short stroll up to Little John's grave, too)

10½ miles plus a couple more after lunch.. Brilliant day out with plans for another visit soon!
