What I love about Cav is that he somehow sees a line, jumps a wheel, finds space and launches forward amidst the chaos of the run in with unerring accuracy skill and bravery. His wins so far this tour have not been at all straightforward and reflect his unerring ability to do the right thing at the right time. It’s an extraordinary thing and I feel lucky watching him do it.

Totally agree. But regarding today, you think his team mate could’ve taken the win? Would of been awkward coach journey home to be fair.

Sorry for the spoiler whippet. Although to be fair we are both stood in the same arrivals queue as I type this

for a while longer by the looks of it mate 😬

My next race is on Wednesday. It is organised by The League International who sound like a 1930's Socialist Group, but actually organise a lot of Racing in the UK, much of it Age based.

It is in Worcestershire and is a bit like the Zwift Hare and Hounds races. There are 3 groups - 60+ go off first, 45-59 go next and the last group off is the under 45's. I don't know what the time gap is. I've just got the start list and there are about 20 riders in each group.

The race is around 33 miles so it will be pretty quick. I'll report back afterwards.

Eddie Merckx not quite ready to congratulate Cavendish by the sounds of it 😄

Merckx, speaking to the Italian media, was less impressed. “Of course there’s a difference between us,” the Belgian, now 76, said. “I won 34 Tour stages by winning sprints, in the mountains, in time trials and going on the attack on the descents. Let’s not forget the five yellow jerseys I’ve got at home plus the 96 days I wore it. Does that not seem much?”

Absolutely awesome ride by Cav and his team, he looks unbeatable at the moment. I also think Caleb would have given him a lot more to think about - looks like the stars aligned for him at this tour.

Definitely. No Bennett, Ewan and Sagan, van aert targeting ventoux and MVDP in yellow then aiming for olympics, merlier out as well- but you can only beat what is in front of you and he was well overdue a slice of luck.

Saw that, not sure why he's being so defensive; his palmares will never be equalled.

You can be a bad winner 😆 but maybe an insight into why he won so much - bet he's training right now.

Funny, but Cav has enormous respect for Mercx, as exhibited by his interview after the stage yesterday.

Yeah let’s not forget which one of them got caught doping three time either!

It must sting a little seeing your records get beaten (or in this case equalled). But the fact it’s such a different era, different technology, tactics etc etc. And obviously they’re such different riders. It’s all so different. I think he might just pipe down a little and say well done. But maybe it got a bit lost in translation? 🤷‍♂️

The Mercx household must be a very tense place at the moment 😁

Because I started following @IrishAl on Instagram, I get these great old photos from the last 100 years of racing and those guys were brutal.
