I’ve entered a race at 17:05. I’m going in for c cat. I think my average w/kg suggest I should probably be B cat but I just want to get a feel for it. I’ve entered via zwiftlink. Does it take me to the start automatically?

log into zwift no later that 4-45 to allow time for any issues. On top right list of events should show you are going to it. if not click it and say you are going. Go for a warm up ride.15min before race screen will present a box for you to join. You can leave joining closer to race start but i would click join and you will be at start gate by velodrome. You will see the banner clock ticking down. Warm up will save to strava. As clock hits 30 sec to go speed up and get ready to fly out the gate at 400w plus.

good luck!

That is interesting. I only increase power with about 10 seconds to go. Do we know what is the optimum?

Good times there Tommy, for your first proper race on Zwift. The power numbers are now realistic and it can catch you out thinking that 350W was easy to maintain in Bkool. Don't forget, first race, a little under par and the race craft takes a little getting used to

You have been bumped upto B category:okay:. You came 30th^_^

Yeah not too shabby really all things considered. I’m not in good health at the moment so I can’t be too disappointed. I took Bob’s advice off the start and found myself right at the front of the race. When I noticed most of the guys around me after the first half mile or so were racing in the A category I thought I’d better slow down a little or die a miserable death! I dropped back to the next group and sat with them for all four laps. I had a stitch before the race and it came back near the end but it wasn’t so bad I needed to stop. Really good fun. That course will suit me best being so flat, I tried not to push too hard but it’s always difficult.... racing is always a great buzz!

Zwift races are very fast action packed with lapses in concentration that get you dropped of a group and find it extremely difficult to get back on. In that regard it is very much like real racing. Don't worry about the watts it's about tactics, drafting and having something left for the sprint.
