Traineroad for me tomorrow hopefully.

I know what you’re saying regarding watts Andy, but I find them a very useful tool to gage what I’ve got left in the tank. Sort of as a reassurance. I know from the power meter on my good weather bike roughly what I can put out over a given distance without blowing up. And I try to use that to roughly gage my effort.

Riding in the pack was really fun. It’s intereting how easy it is to either find yourself at the front, middle, or back. But you know in your head how much of a difference what each position will mean in terms of relative effort.

I’m just hoping I can stay away from the races enough to give traineroad a proper go!

do you always go by watts ? and would that be average watts ?
i always tend to take more notice on heart rate - average mostly

Lee I only use hr to gauge effort on Long climbs. I keep it at 140-155 so 30w below max. I can hold 250-265w at that hr. Different when racing especially in the flat or a lumpy course. The more experienced racers may agree you have no time to watch hr unless race over an hour and useful to gauge fatigue perhaps.

yeah, we refer to him as Kim-from North Korea  Its Zsum racings own spreadsheet of times from zwift/strava.

Odd? how very dare you! I assume you mean Old!

Zwift/Strava should give users the option to expunge old data, say up to a certain date. Until then you can only go by group rules. Kim keeps us on our toes.
It would be nice if you could keep your distance in Strava but remove the strava segment time if you know/suspect it was dodgy. My PB for the start to top of the tower is 39 mins, but my other 10 or so rides is around 48-50 mins. Offending day is 17th Oct so on that day clearly the Pro was not giving correct resistance.

If there is a way to do this by the way, please do tell :okay:

I look at the watts I’m putting out over a 3 second average generally mate. Vs the position I’m trying to hold. If I’m in a group and I’m having to push over 300 watts to maintain my place in the group. I’ll have to consider whether I’m better off dropping out the back of the group, depending on the distance left. If I’m riding within my comfort zone in the group, I know I’m going to have a chance to put out decent power come the sprint. It’s not exactly an exact science and I don’t know if it’s the best way but it works for me. I’m never going to claim to be an athlete so I just sort of made up a method to suit me.

With heart rate I normally only really notice it in the extremes. If it’s very low it means I can’t really get going. If it goes very high early I probably mucked up my cadence or didn’t warm up properly. I don’t mind if my HR goes very high deeper into the race so long as I feel I’m in control of my breathing.

I’ve noticed I need a decent warm up. I found the guys I was trying to beat on BKOOL had different approaches. Daddy Pig and Bill seem to use the ten second bleeps as their warm up! Aaac Bridgy Bobinski take a far more measured approach.

Happy to be corrected on this approach because like I say it isn’t exactly scientific!

I have been told You can ask Strava to remove it but they may tell you to use one of the online tools that apparently allow this. But you lose the mileage.

I’ve just created a Facebook page but I think I’m keeping it from the missus. Is this divorce material?! :B)

Step one: She finds out.
Step two: I have to be friend her on Facebook....
Step three: I get daily friendship requests from people who have no interest in my first love (riding my bikes obviously!)
So far I’ve only joined groups specific to cycling. Paradise!! :sun:
Found you - friend request sent :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I think I can delete the whole ride, but I don't really want to do that as I lose all the miles. I'm not that bothered about the PBs but for that specific climb I do have a PB only bettered by Lee which is clearly bonkers (not that Lee is faster than me, but that I'm faster than everyone else!) My normal times are more realistic - just this one day by the looks of it :banghead:

Edit : Sorted it - I hid the whole ride from the leaderboard which allows me to keep my distance but takes all the PBs from that ride out of all leader boards

If you go to the Edit Activity window in Strava youcan tick the "Hide from leaderboards" box which, I think, will stop any of your segment performances on that ride showing up... not sure but I think

Excellent
Now, what about the rest?

i think we were all a bit late to jump on the athlete boat but it just interests me
if i was to go on watts , they vary so much i would get lost
up hill i know the watts and heart rate i feel i can maintain for a while but once you start going downhill or flat then i can get heart rate going bonkers but watts are no where near the same ? is it a case of just knowing what you can do on certain gradients
old in the tooth but willing to learn !
