Hoping for @TurboTommy to approve my excuse (involving loss of ferry booking, hotel and entrance money) is my one hope of salvation for this disaster.

A nice 9 out of 10 would surely help my recovery!

Del I’d love to help you mate... but everyone knows a 9 out of 10 is only achieved by your own death. And even then you have to come on here afterwards to explain yourself. So that excuse probably won’t get used very often

You do have my every sympathy though bud. Not that you’d ever catch me riding across cobbles which seems like pure torture! But I’d be absolutely gutted to miss out on a cycling trip. Especially at such short notice. It’s a real pisser to say the least.

To be honest achy joints wouldn’t normally rank very highly on the acceptable excuse scale. But it must be pretty bad to stop you going on the trip. And I do feel very sorry for you mate. I’m torn between a 6 and a 7... So it’s a 6 out of 10

Bit of a mixed week for me.

Smashed one of the BRVR climbs on Monday averaging 251W. Felt really good.

Felt a bit achy before ToW Stage 1 on Tuesday, but was ok on the bike. Averaged 257W and that would have been higher had I not tied up a bit in the last 5kms, but still a good time at 44.03. Again very happy with continued improvement.

That night and the next day I found out why I was achy. I’ve gone down with some bug that I think I caught from my son-in-law.

Currently suffering with very achy arms and legs and some joints, and I’ve decided to pull out of the Tour of Flanders this weekend. It’s a great ride and a great weekend, but the course is completely unforgiving on the body and trying to do it as I currently feel is out of the question. As my son-in-law has been off work all week, there’s no guarantee that I’ll be fit for Saturday.

Trying to find a word to sum up how I feel I’ve currently come up with ‘bollocks’ although ‘f**k” is running it a close second.

F***ing bollocks?
I am really sorry for ya. Can you transfer it to next year?

I still haven’t quite worked this out yet, but you’re absolutely right that my average watts were higher yet I came in 25 seconds after you.

I mean, I know you’ll soon be 5 stones lighter than me :tongue: but at the moment there’s only around 1kg difference between us.

You absolutely must be using your power in more effective areas than me. The only other possible area of difference is height. I’m 6’ 1” and I have read that the Zwift algorithm also works against taller riders.

ah, could be. i'm 5ft 7

I'm not sure. I don't think so but haven't really checked.

I was riding with a group from our club and travelling with a friend so concentrated on changing the ferry booking to his car so that he can still get there.

Edit: no doesn't seem to be any option to defer

Wow. The road to ruins course is aptly named. Just when you think you've got nothing left there was another wee incline to make you dig in.

44.04 - 116th on the stage so probably quite a bit less on the startline than earlier events. Very happy with the effort, properly almost fell off the bike at the end, nothing left to give.

Despite smallish field found a good group of around 15-20 who i'm guessing were larger riders (fast pace on flat but relatively slow uphill....perfect)

I have to say all CycleChat riders are showed good effort in ToW stage-1 and @Whorty ride like duracell bunny, nothing seems to exhaust him.
Yea. Crazy I couldn't hold his wheel on his third time around. Ugh. He was gracious enough to tow me up to a group before leaving us in the dust.

According to ZP he finished about 30 seconds up the road from me. I'm officially at 49:13 this time around. Best wattage since last summer.
