Just not as strong Tommy, I seem to be better with endurance and lack outright power. Ive got minor niggles which preclude me from long rides-ignoring Tenerife (drug and medical assisted to survive the rides) Also lost a lot of interest in riding flat out. Im contemplating missing both DD and TOC if my issues don't clear up in time. So much else going on in life too-drains enthusiasm

I can definitely relate to lots of that mate.

I’ve always said that riding is like cheap therapy for me. It’s one of the only times I get to shut out all the rest of the stuff I have to deal with concerning my business and family.

If it begins to feel like a chore it’s no fun anymore. All I can suggest is try and use it as an escape from the other crap rather than an added burden. I think the biggest problem with training by numbers I.e, trainerroad, or constant comparing of data. Is that it can become too results driven with not enough emphasis on fun. And if it isn’t fun then what’s the point right.

I haven’t done any long rides this year and when it comes to DD I intend to stay in a group, not push at all, and talk shite for the duration of the shorter distance ride. Why not sign up to that experience bud? And maybe bring some earplugs just in case....

It won’t be the same without you

Never been able to get W/Kg over 3.2. Id need ave 20mins of 296W, which I cant seem to hit these days.
Same here. Can't quite get B numbers yet, however hard I try. I'll get there through weight loss rather than extra power! I think I'm close to the max ftp I can reach (at least based on the training I can find time to do .

Listen, I could easily be wrong but it looks to me like you fall into the same trap that I do. You race a lot and do a lot of fairly hard riding and quite a decent volume. However, if you REALLY want to get faster, you (and me) need to do more easy Zone 2 riding, much less middle of the road riding, and the right amount of really hard structured training, like TrainerRoad.

The problem is, it is fun to race and do all that stuff, and Zone 2 can be boring - but pretty much all the coaches say the same thing. People make their easy days too hard, their hard days too easy and not enough emphasis on quality recovery.

I fully agree Martin. I know from Tenerife having arrived quite unfit, struggled with climbs being 20 mins slower over an hour climb the first week. Absolutely shattered end of first week. Slept 14 hours on the first non ride day, we then had a cancelled day due to weather. Those two days of enforced rest actually made me stronger for week 2. Where I was producing much better times and PB's-albeit numbed by strong painkillers.

I know. Read all the advice, but I just find zone 2 so dull

The riding helps keep real life at bay. It's a therapy for me. A bit of self harm if you will, but in a not too dangerous way. Maybe saying too much on an open forum, but I need to feel the pain every time I ride. Better than drinking or other alternatives

I guess for me , given the sh1t going on, it's what works best today.:okay:

PS beautiful bike.......very jealous

I agree that to squeeze the most out of yourself you need to be as structured as possible. The trouble with that for me though is that unless you’re capable of being very focussed and can maintain the motivation it gets a bit boring. And then you can drop off and beat yourself up a bit.

I genuinely think trainerroad is overrated. You can make your own programme that involves intervals, races and zone 2 and it’s more fun in my opinion.

Just had another go at stage 1 but eased at end once I realised wouldn’t beat my earlier time. Slower to jungle then a bit quicker but overall me and those I was drafting not fast enough.
1 minute slower, but 13 watts less on average. Still not a bad time given you took it easier towards the end :okay:

I might have another pop today at 2 and then stay on the bike for another hour afterwards to get a few miles in

Far too much sense being posted today. What’s going on??!!

Desperately trying to have a day off or an easy recovery ride today. Hard race/session yesterday
Had a rest day yesterday. Planning a race at 2 o'clock, then may stay on for a bit longer to put a few more miles into the legs. May then go for a 'zone 2' longer ride tomorrow (boo hoo  )
