Additional ..... she also said 2 tricks that I hadn't really thought about before. The first one is to stay away from fresh fibrous foods the couple of days before the ride. So no high amounts of fruit, veg, salad etc as these can sit in the gut and create extra weight. Instead eat refined carbs like bread and pasta (I know we carb up, but didn't really think about why before, apart from to fill up the muscles stores). She did say this is only for the days up to the ride and to eat healthily at all other times!

The other 'trick' is to drink a couple of very strong coffees, then go and do some star jumps. A good way to get the body to lose a kilo or 2 apparently  Just make sure you're near a loo

Any other tips?

I think suggesting not eating fibre if it is a regular part of your diet is bonkers. Fibre helps you do the thing she expects the star jumps to sort! I agree about coffeE. 2 double espressos every morning for me with a bit of milk and a slab of home made whole meal bread and honey or peanut butter or jam works wonders. Which reminds me I need to take my cafetière to Wales.

I organised a 24h London to Paris a few years back. Completely ruined by someone who insisted on stopping and eating every hour or so. He simply ate too much. We arrived hours late. I still bear a grudge.

That would annoy me plenty. We always ride straight past the first few feed stations unless it’s a very hot day & we need fluid refills.

For me it depends how long the total ride is. On Sunday I’ll stop at them all I think. But only because I’ll want to stretch out my shoulders and back for a couple of minutes. And also to gives everyone else half a chance to catch up

After doing Stage 5 ToC yesterday, I went riding with Wendy my good wife. Her target was to do her first ever 50 miler. The longest she had done before was 38 miles several years ago.

We did 51 miles at a not too shabby average of 14.2mph and I was very proud of her :smooch:

If you get a minute, can you pop on Strava and give her a Kudos, the activity link is https://www.strava.com/activities/2349673792

Her Garmin is not recording properly since I put Powertap wheels on and got the Garmin to connect with it. No idea what the problem is, so may have to de-link the power or get another Garmin (or sort out the problem  )

She nearly killed me when I said 100 was next

Have you seen the new GRX range from Shimano. https://road.cc/content/tech-news/2...oupset-launched-all-key-details-you-need-know

10/11 speed single dual chainsets and lower gearing to match the likes of FSA adventure range.-great for mountain climbing, if erm you're on the larger size  It will probably knock the aftermarket chain ring companies
I'm waiting on prices. I've been looking at the force axs kit for an upgrade to my GT Grade. But when you factor in a cassette, xdr hub adapter (if your wheel has them available) or new wheel/set it starts to get really expensive. You then start looking at new bikes and they are starting at around £3k it is very difficult to make up you mind.
