Had a go on the Giro prologue this afternoon, plan was to ride the 2 pm holding back a bit to check the course and hill out and then go full gas on the 2:30 ride. Held back a bit on the flat section but pushed a bit too much to have any desire to ride the hill again so soon. Rode Canyon Speedmax and Zipp 808’s for a time of 20:13 , will give it another go maybe Monday.
After three weeks off bike doing Everest base camp trek which included walking @ 130 km up and down the Khumbu valley and probably 5/6000 M of ascent I’m finding the legs aren’t performing on the bike on threshold efforts yet. I was going quite well and feeling fit on bike before the trek. From memory in similar situations I think TrainerRoad seem to recommend dropping back to a week or two of base training. Has anyone got any tips or suggestions.?

Try a week of high cadence 95-100rpm for an hour to get your legs firing fast, and improve cardio. Then try a few short 1 to 3 mins HIT following week to see how body responds

Love a good equipment chat haha... I was thinking TT bike with some climbing wheels? Would that give you the flat speed but then make the climb easier? Also, need to know if drafting is on because that could be huge if the event is busy? Not really a fair comparison vs the professionals though, which is kind of the point.

Looking to ride it later this evening maybe 7:30 or 8:00 after the real Giro. Give the legs a blast and try to test my 20-minute power (or 35 minutes ;))
Drafting not on during the flat and cimb, but it did come back on during the descent back to the start line. There was certainly a mix of bikes out there. I did it in 20:08, averaging 268 watts and 3.5 w/kg. I beat Andy Long by a whole 5 seconds. Not sure what bike he used, but he beat me by 40 secs on the flat and I beat him by 40 secs on the climb (give or take 5 secs). I definitely took it controlled on the flat and saved everything for the climb - I may try it again on a TT bike and same tactics to see how this effects the times.

For what it's worth, I put the NEO trainer realism to 100%

Strong time, I won't be anywhere near that! I guess you used your climbing set up? I have just watched Pritchard's video and he said that he doesn't think the TT bike did him any favours up the hill. I think two runs testing both. Are CCers having a little competition? If there's one thing that I've learnt so far it's that CCers love a little race!

There a segment in Strava already and if you're on there, join the Cyclechat group .... there will be competition to top that little league :okay: Also if you're on ZwiftPower, make sure you're in the Cyclechat 'team' and again the times for the CCers will show on there.

I did use the climbing kit and I think it definitely helped on the climb. Not sure how it hindered the flat section. Out the pens I was about 270 out of 600 starters. By the climb I was 214. On the road I crested the hill in 103rd.

HID was watching the screen, and shouting me on, so that was an incentive to push as hard as possible  She said she really enjoyed it, and asked if she could watch some other races ^_^

My Zwift insider segment time was 20:25. Did it on my Shiv TT bike and zipp808 wheels so well happy with that. FTP increase from 195-202w. Might have to start calling myself a B cat now!

The time to beat is:

BRESCHEL Matti EF EDUCATION FIRST 16’ 24”

He was the last rider in the real life Giro today. I'm well happy knowing that time! 4:01 down on a pro rider sounds very good.

My giro tt challenge went pretty much way i planned. Flat easily and climb over my ftp. I didn’t want to race or push too hard because i had night shift done and one more to go. I ride 100% difficulty with Trek Emonda with Lightweight wheelset.

Well Zwifters tell me how.
I log into Zwift on my PC and there is a list off upcoming rides on the right.
I fancy one that starts in 10 so I select and wait, and wait, and wait.
The 59 second countdiwn starts snd I wait and then nothing!
How do I join the feking ride?

I think you have to start a ride and not just sit on the main menu. Then when you are 'in a world' you get a pop up saying join event, which you need to click.

I always select a race from the companion app on my phone (I have an Android phone, you can download the app from the store. ID and password is same as Zwift). Never tried it from the PC application. i would hen log on to Zwift 30 mins or so before the planned race and warm up in a world. About 15 mins (sometimes earlier) you will get a pop up on the screen saying 'Join Now'. Once you join you are automatically sent to the start pens. i normally choose this about 5 mins before the start time. If you don't select it manually it should send you anyway to the pens 3 mins before the race starts.

When you're in the pens you can warm up as normal. 10 secs before race starts, increase power as the starts are lively.

As Lonerider says, you need to be in the system for it to take you to the pens. This may be the issue you're seeing.

Edit : just tried what you're doing. I logged on, selected a race off main menu and sat there for a minute. Nothing. But as soon as I clicked 'Ride' to take me into the worlds, then the option to join the race shows on the bottom left as I explained above. Worth a try, see if it works for you.
