Carl if you take the bike off. gently spin the flywheel, it should be perfectly quiet. If it sounds grinding, its likely its picked up tiny hard particles inside the flywheel. The clearance between the flywheel and magnetic coils is less than 1mm, so little bits will cause a grinding noise.

You can get a flywheel puller from Tacx to do the clean up

Feck, feck, feck !!!!!! NEO2 has gone capooot Horrible grinding noise. Thought it was gears catching at first so checked they looked to be indexed ok. Thankfully still have the Kickr - put bike on there and no noise, so definitely the NEO Let's see how good Tacx customer service is.

Anyone else heard of other NEOs going the same way?

If i don't remember wrong Shane Miller (GPLAMA) made a video about riding noise. That should be in youtube, hope you find it and hope it helps to identify that issue.

The noise came on quite quickly and got worse very fast. I guess it could be dust, but i wouldn't expect it to get so bad, and worse, so quickly. The extractor tool is £17 - damned if i'm paying that extra to 'fix' an expensive piece of kit that is only 2 months old. I'm expecting Tacx to collect the trainer, fix, and send back at no cost or effort to me. I'm not taking it apart when it's only 2 months old - mechanical i'm not!

I'll take a video and ping to them. Will post up on here too. Will be tomorrow now as can't be arsed to switch bike over trainers again tonight.

Maybe, although it did start suddenly, and get very very bad very quickly - even HID who is in a different part of the house could hear it. Had it started and stayed constant I'd think it might be something not too serious, but it was so bad I couldn't use it. It really did sound like something was grinding away once I turned the pedals.

Yeah - hopefully it will mean some more exciting racing in the last week (tbh the Giro doesn't seem to have really got going yet). The likes of Yates, Landa and Lopez will have to go on the attack to break Roglic and overtake Nibali.

The cold facts, even if they claw back all the lost time and more, the last stage is a ITT and we have all seen who's the best GC time-trialer currently

It will make for a fantastic spectacle if Yates, Nibali, Landa etc go for bust in the mountains though

Cycling is not much safer than ski-jump, actually in cycling is more risk of crashing. You need to be carefull with other riders etc. when ski-jumping wind is danger element like probably in that Roglic crash.
