Had a half decent ride today in Zwift but still too embarresing to download.
Did Stage 7 of Watopia.
It's worse than the Alp d'H!
I attacked where I thought the top was going to be ready for the descent. Little did I know there was not one.
I averaged 5.1 W/kg for the climb which is why I didn't download it.
The trainer seems to be 'bedding in' to Zwift and moving the reality slider to 75% had improved the feel and effort do I may move it to 90.

The screen layout is quirky to say the least. They seem to have reserved premium space for things like best live segment times and your credit and level tally. Things I don’t really need to know about while I’m riding. And the vital stats that you want to use have been spread to different corners of the screen to accommodate it. It’s a shame you can’t pick and choose your screen layout to be honest. But you do get used to it fairly quickly.

Carl, your Neo noise doesn't sound like the usual grinding noise which I've heard on other videos. You've done the right thing returning.
Not actually returned yet .... waiting for Tacx to let me know what they want. Hoping they will collect and replace, but worst case will be I will take to Halfords to fix/replace. At least I kept the Kickr so I can at least still use that so long as I don't go up the Alpe at 100% It doesn't sound well though

I have been happy Elite Drivo2 owner so far. No problems so far and not know should i be worry about something. Not read of any kind of mechanical problems either. Some bluetooth issues are involved of this trainer but i use ant+. Maybe belts might need some attention after few years usage but so far so good.

Just looking through Strava for when i did this course last - time was 1hr 37mins. Be nice to get below 1hr 30mins this week and not push too hard ... which I think is feasible. Trick I think is get into a good group to the first climb, tempo up that, join another group on the descent to the Jungle, then try to tempo up the Alpe at (for me) about 230 watt average (which is below my PB watts of 261). That's the plan anyway

Same plan here - try and hold the tail of the front group up the first bump, catch up on the descent, and then let the suffering begin on the Alpe. I’m not particularly built for climbing so if any of you guys are like whippets on the hill then my virtual lead in the league could be toast.

You'll be talking about Lee then when you refer to whippets

Hoping to start a new contract next week so only a few more days of freedom ... been looking around YouTube and found this GCN video about carbon bike manufacturing (at the Look factory). I had no idea how carbon bikes were constructed so this was fascinating to me. Every day is, quite literally, a school day!

Ive just completed Stage 6 . I am really out of condition. I was struggling to stay over 200W and just wanted it to end. The slower I got the longer the pain continued:cry:

Ive got a new saddle to help with my on going undercarriage issues. a small step in the right direction hopefully.

Well done Andy. Not easy to climb the Alpe if you're not feeling at your best. Becomes more mind over body!

I'm deferring this to Saturday afternoon. Body not up for a sustained effort today and mind telling me not to push it (ok, HID is telling me this, my mind is trying to refer me to rule #5 but in this instance HID wins!). Doc has put me on steroids again for the asthma so need to take it easy for a few days. Gentle spin later, and maybe tomorrow and Friday should suffice.

What undercarriage issues are you suffering from?

I’m assuming its saddle sores? I had a problem with these for some time but have been largely free of them for some time now.

When it was at its worst I read an article about a project British Cycling had undertaken when a number of their female track riders were suffering from saddle sores. The article is here:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2016/aug/15/team-gb-cycling-saddle-sore-medals

Based on this I started using Doublebase Gel instead of Chamois cream when riding. Initially, this seemed to have a very positive impact and the instances of sores reduced significantly.

I thought this had fixed things, when last winter in the middle of the Zwift build me up programme, the little bastards cam back. I got through it by using corn plasters as a padding, but that clearly was a stopgap and not a cure.

Reading up more, it seemed that saddle sores are caused by bacteria on the skin getting into and infecting pores. So, I decided to get some anti-bacterial soap and have been using that ever since. It wasn’t just sores I was suffering from as I often got itchy armpits. Both these things flared up after a ride and after I had showered, so both the itchy armpits and the saddle sores appeared after I’d ridden, showered and thought my skin was clean.

Since last winter, I’ve been clear again. I still use Doublebase gel when I ride (outdoors or on the turbo), I get out of my cycling clothes as soon as I practically can when I finish a ride, I use anti-bacterial soap applying the bar directly to the skin and if I have any soreness or chafing after a long ride I use either a little Doublebase Gel or Savlon to soothe it.

Don’t know if this squares with any of your experience, but I know the pain and frustration saddle sores cause, so I hope its helpful to you.
