56.21 for the last stage
Nice to now be able to go up the pub tomorrow šŸ‘šŸ‘
Knowing I still have 2 stages to do and with both having bumps in the roads this isn’t good reading so please delete.

I’m on a new diet plan and I thought I’d recommend it to you guys.

Basically you can eat as many mince pies and biscuits as you like. The secret is: Don’t weigh yourself, and just decide for yourself how much weight you’ve lost. It’s early doors, but so far tonight Ive lost 2kg and I’ve eaten four mince pies, some weird star biscuit things the missus has bought, and I just cracked open my second beer.

Tomorrow I’m going out for drinks and a meal and I fully intend to lose another 3kg at least! :highfive:

(This method may have mixed results...)

I just found one of these at the back of a cupboard. (Garmin speed and cadence sensor). Brand new never used. It’s been superseded by a newer model (or 2). But I’m sure it still does the job. Would anyone like it? No charge just pay postage. Think of it as an early Christmas gift. It’d be really cool if someone has a kid who’s getting into cycling who’d like it, but failing that first come first served!

Where are you thinking of everesting? I see some people have done slieve croob and stormont (most work anyone's ever done there...) believe it or not! Or maybe you have your eye or somewhere a bit more exotic

I had seen the Slieve Croob efforts but hadn’t seen Stormont hill. Stormont hill would be perfect as it’s a nice steady gradient, short, and would have lots of public as it is popular for tourists, walkers, and joggers (and not so common to see elected representatives šŸ˜)

but I think there is some additional kudos for being the first person to do a particular hill so I think I will look to find one that hasn’t been done before.
There are some good climbs in the mourne mountains - so I’m going to try and find one that is reasonably close to homeand has a steady gradient rather than ups and downs so not to have many wasted miles.

My friend and I planned an everesting this year on a lovely local hill here in Catalunya, 28reps of a 7km climb at about 4%. However after the half attempt to practice and iron out practicalities I decided that as I had already started to really suffer that I didn't want to suffer for another 8 hours which is what it would have taken. I concluded that my aggressive riding style was not suited to this type of challenge. I think you have to be the type of rider who can spin low gears. If you have any questions ask, I'll happily give you the benefit of what I did learn!

thanks @keithaitch. I do worry about the length of time on the saddle. The longest bike ride I have done is 120 miles, about 7 hours of riding. Did you have a training plan to build up your endurance?

No we didn't have a plan we both regularly ride over 100 miles and regularly do 3000 m of climb on a ride but at it proved its the sheer amount of climbing that is the killer, but the distance or the time. My experience tells me that you need to be the kind of rider who can climb using low twitch muscles with a high cadence and without putting too much of a strain on the legs.

Not to go too off topic (I'm setting up for an excuse for tonight's ride) or Mumsnet-ie, but this story hit so many truths yesterday (Full time caring). My wife doesn't have dementia, or too many cognitive issues, but a lot of what these poor women are going through with their husbands affects many carers out there. Very sad, and next to no help from social services.

Now for the excuses .... we had an emergency last night, was up until 4:30 until 111 sorted wifey out, so i'm shattered today. Come on @<Tommy> this must be worth a 2 or 3 on the world renowned "Tommy Excuse Reduce Scale" ;)

p.s. no sympathy needed, it is what it is, but thought some might be interested in the link, and I need an excuse for a potential poor time later
