What you up to these days legs? Are you on a training plan bud?
Yes - Zwift subscription is paused and I’m doing a training plan but it’s going badly!

Had a good start but was unwell last week and camping with the family this week so about ten days out which isn’t in the plan and I don’t have time for!

I have signed up for an ITT and a circuit race but might see if I can swap the circuit race entry for the Sportive tbh - I just don’t think I am going to be in the right shape.

Also having some personal issues which are making me pretty stressed and damaging my motivation so all in all not great at the moment. Since the snip I’ve really struggled for one reason or another.

Last night I raced in the TLI Welland Road Race, Event 3 of the Worcestershire Wednesday Road Race Series. This was a handicap race and it was the first time I’d tried one of these, other than on Zwift.

There were over 60 entries which were split into 3 start groups. Under 40, 41-59 and over 60’s. I was in the over 60’s group and we started first. It was a 33 mile 2 lap race and there were 3 minute gaps between each start group.

We lined up behind the pace car and set off. I thought there was a short neutralised period…. But I was wrong and a few riders went shooting off the front. I was immediately behind and had to chase really hard to catch back on. This still left 2 riders off the front but I was now in a group of 8-10 and it turned into a decent chaingang for a while.

As we neared the end of lap 1, the middle group caught us. As in Zwift, you have to prepare for a hard effort as the passing group goes by so you don’t get dropped. I settled into this new group and the higher pace.

With about half a lap to go, the scratch race caught us and again the pace accelerated. I felt okay in this group but not in a position to dictate anything. The pace became more stop start as we got nearer the finish.

In the final mile, the pace picked up and I was in the front group but not at the front. I got a semi sprint going and passed at least one guy in my age group on the line. Results aren’t in yet but I think I was about 26th overall.

The good thing about being out of shape is the satisfaction of seeing your fitness build again afterwards - and it will! :okay:

But it's important to look after your mental wellbeing first and foremost, and I've found that unpressured, leisure riding has given me the headspace I've needed at times in my life when I've felt under the cosh. Just nipping out into the lanes for a quick spin after my boys have gone to bed has been enough. It can be quite demoralising if you're looking at power numbers all the time!

Hope you get your mojo back - and 'Ride On!' :bicycle:

Sound advice👍

You are still young(ish!) so take the pressure off.

I've had a niggly chest infection for the last week or so haven't really had a chance to do anything on the bike lately.

Just reading on the autocat thing - from the description it sounds as if your cat changes depending on the course (here the example is a person could be a cat 2 for flat races but cat 3 for hilly races). Wil that not destroy series racing?

Here is the big difference between this thread and what I think Facebook is. (I don't have Facebook but hear about it from my wife every day)
On here you can't just put the overly rosy picture of what you want the world to see- its like the kids say, keeping it real.
But man, lately between you refining your race craft and the crazy real world rides of others on here I see on Strava, I'm starting to wonder...

Edit: It just occurred to me that may be why Berty and Tommy don't have a 3 climb certificate.

😄

To be fair Randy myself and Lee we do have a certificate of sorts. It’s just not in paper form, it’s forever burned into our psyche’s!

I don’t really get how it works but I’m glad that theyre playing with the cat system a bit.

Scorchy today. :sun:

Got my 1hr30 ride in at 6am but found a nice set of lakes by accident looking for a gravel farm track

Lots of water for those brave enough to hit the hot roads midday/afternoon

Nice one :okay:

I did 2.5 hrs in the sun yesterday and 2 hours today - my new Garmin tells me I am now 18% heat acclimatised - dunno how or why it works that out

I remember seeing you at the end of the TOC last time, you looked cool as cucumber, whilst the rest of us looked cooked

Hot weather suits you, definitely not me :heat:
