Like an absolute idiot, I’ve chosen tonight’s LaGuardia Super Sprint race as my first event back for more than a month… It’s only 5 minutes or so, but very intense! 20:35 if you fancy it! 😎
373W for 5 minutes and I got swamped in the sprint as usual! I tried to hide in the wheels as much as I could but still couldn't muster much of a finishing effort. I can reliably hit 1000-1100W from a rest, but it's a completely different matter when you've been riding above threshold...

Nice numbers, you were probably nudging 400W alot of the time. :okay:

Thanks. I think I need to perfect the Zwift Double Sprint - I wasn't brave enough to go quite early enough last night.

I’d love to race the DBR tonight but think it’s unlikely. Got this week off work and going camping tomorrow so today is all about preparing everything to take. These things always seem to come down to the wire so expecting to be packing bags/the car this evening rather than racing.

But if the stars align and we are ready earlier than expected I will be there 👍

Happy Monday chaps…

I can’t make the race tonight either. I want to do that league but I won’t have time tonight unfortunately. I’m up for another race on Thursday if someone wants to pick one out.
I'd be up for doing the same H&H race again on Thursday if you like - as part of the process of gently easing ourselves back into racing?!

I think come September, there will start to be more race series being set up so hopefully we can find one that runs on a Thursday. I did a 3R Sundown Race series last year which included a number of stages on different terrains and an individual TT and collated results into an overall General Classification. It was really good and I remember having a great little battle over the series with Irish Al and a few others. Will keep my eyes peeled for something similar on Thursday nights 🤞

I'd be up for doing the H&H race on Thursday night, but I might have my work cut out if, like last week, there aren't any other As to share the wind with!

Question: if I were the only rider in my group, would it be advantageous for me to ride a TT bike? I suspect that anyone I do catch would be going too slowly for me to want to latch onto them...

No benefit in a TT bike. It might make you more likely to catch someone but you won’t get any benefit from doing so. I’d just got for an aero road bike setup if the course is flat, and even if it is flat with an after party climb.

Yebbut if I've caught a C rider for 6 minutes (or a D rider for 15 minutes) in a half-hour race, I'm going to be wanting to go straight past them - any time spent in their draft (apart from the few seconds of going past them) is wasted. ZwiftInsider's data suggest that my Cervelo P5 with Zipp 808s should be about 80s faster over 50 minutes (so maybe 50s faster over a 23km flattish event?) than the Tron. It's a dilemma for sure!

Well if you're the only A you'll win your category whatever you ride, but also I doubt you'll have any chance of winning overall on your own against a group of Bs and the best Cs. You'd be pretty annoyed if you were sat on your own in the start pen on a TT bike and then 3 or 4 more Cat A's joined at the very last minute ^_^

I wouldn't expect to win - the only way to think of it is as a time trial with a bit of added motivation, I suppose.

An even bigger dilemma would be if there were 2 Cat As in the pen, one of whom is on a TT bike. I suppose the other rider would sit on their wheel until the end, then use their fresher legs to ride away...
