it is a pretty significant change that the Neo bike is now cheaper than the wattbike.

In my head i had decided on the wattbike when the time comes to upgrade but now rewatching the DCrainmaker videos etc.

Get the Wattbike and you can be as cool as @Whorty @steverob and of course, the resident TV star @Joffey

I feel like if the neo bike is cheaper it’s a no brainer really. I would just make sure it’s the newer rather than the older version they’re selling. But other than that it seems like a no brainer to me. No offence intended to any atom owner here but the neo bike does tend to score higher on all comparisons. It has quite a bit more functionality.

It would bother me more that the other turbos over read if it wasn’t for the fact the neo is seen as the standard bearer in online racing. I’m surprised it’s as high as 4%. But it just helps to put our smugness on another level. We’re like the vegans or Tesla owners of zwift, we get all the smugness points, but without the need to give up hamburgers or petrol!

That’s the thing, if I was in the market for a smart trainer right now, I’d probably be getting the Neo. It’s just that when I bought my Wattbike it was literally the only option on the market (ordered it a week after launch, received it two months later).

I have no idea if it gives me extra watts or not and I don’t care - not like I’ve got anything to compare it to, as I never had a wheel-on on other type of trainer before that date. Plus I can’t even compare my outdoor rides as my riding styles are completely different - on Zwift it’s all short sharp sprints, whereas IRL it’s long relaxed endurance rides.

Because my FTP comes from Zwift, Strava gets confused with how little power in comparison I put down on an outdoor ride - even those where I felt I pushed quite hard, the power stats it calculates shows up as being 90% in Zone 1 (not even 2!)

My decision to get the Atom was mostly due to delivery times. I could get that in less than a week, but the other bikes had waiting times of months.

Another factor was engineers who can service the Atom will come to your house (in uk) but for others I think you can only ship back. Less moving parts on the Atom re belts and I had belt issues on the Kickr and a failure of my first NEO which Tacx refused to acknowledge but thankfully Halfords did and replaced for me.

A few % perceived power accuracy was lower on my list of enjoying the riding if I'm honest. Although my numbers are no different now to how they were on the NEO so if I did gain, it really has only been marginal although I would put some of that down to gears not constantly slipping and losing power which is what was happening on the bike/NEO.

Whatever you decide though, I think the ride will feel better than a bike on a trainer. Is for me anyway!

The one difficulty I have with the neo bike is the wide top tube, seen a few videos of people with much less chunky thighs than I complaining of constant rubbing. I'm not sure of anywhere that you can test that. The q factor is another unknown as I know that's higher on the wattbike, but don't really understand how that would affect me.

Do like the idea of access to mechanics etc but not sure if that holds true for northern Ireland (in fact the shipping may change the relative costs exponentially).
