Funny how days go. I felt like I had a cold coming Monday, by yesterday, just felt flat, lethargic. Today I forced myself to do a weights session. Felt great after that. Decided to go for a night ride, planning on half an hour. But I felt strong, breathing in control and plenty of power in the legs. Hour and half later, nice warm glow

Anyone want to join myself and @Ketty as we try and do this? I have a mate with a couple of Air B&B's local to me so I can book you accommodation and a wife who will run us all to the Black Sheep Brewery at Masham for recovery beers! ^_^

What the hell!! I am up for a meetup in Yorkshire with you guys but I did have something slightly less extreme in mind . I mean, I'm comparing the length and climbing to the Dragon Ride I did earlier this year - which was HARD - and this one's on another level again! I must be getting old (and soft) because I really don't want to put myself through that I don't think - or maybe the trauma of the Dragon Ride hasn't quite worn off yet!

Good luck to you and Ketty though - that's going to be a LOOONG day in the saddle so it's a good job it's scheduled for one of the longest days of the year!

I like the way they do it up North Joff! Down here you’re lucky if you get a crappy energy bar… think I can put a special request in for gravy? 😁

Yeah, we'll have a meet up in Yorkshire but the route will be friendlier!!

Phew!

It's actually really good to commit to things like this so you have a target driving you forward to keep fit etc. I've just booked a trip to the Alps for July next year with a friend - which will include watching the Alpe d'Huez stage of the TDF which is something of a bucket list thing for me. But there's really no flat roads round there, and on the basis my mate has planned us riding all the major local alpine climbs over the few days we're there, that trip will be focussing my mind for the next few months for sure! (None of the days will be as big as that 👆 though :stop:)

Surprised they don't offer a "half beast" - the route goes through the start/finish half way and they've even marked it as a bailout point!

I suppose there is always the option of entering with the intention of using the bailout...

I've no idea what I'm doing: Just started zwifting on a trainer and I don't have a road bike yet... But this just might be the sort of thing that would keep me motivated... I will consider it, especially as it's somewhat local.

I like the way they say that the finish line closes at 10pm. So you can roll in later, knowing you did it. The 312 they block the route and force you onto a shorter course if you fail to meet the time cuts, which can be very short especially if you have to queue for food at the early stops
