I reflected a bit on last night and I think I’m being a bit lazy with the way I prepare for races. I don’t think my decision to ride the Tron was a bad one with the info we had. But I didn’t make any provision for changing bikes, didn’t practice changing bikes, I didn’t even buy a gravel bike… one guy was one place ahead of me going into the final climb on a Tron. He changed to gravel, and then overtook me again to place one ahead of me. So not really an advantage. But anyone who started on gravel or changed before the first climb would of had a distinct advantage in the end. The pace just wasn’t quick enough on the flat to give the Tron any edge and I really should of given myself the opportunity to adapt in the race.

Really generally I’m being a bit lazy. I only knew the sprint was after 5km because I bumped into Joffey warming up and asked him… I didn’t look at the course at all. If I had of I would of realised the finish was at the top of the climb (I assumed it was at the bottom of the descent so that caught me by surprise abs maybe cost me some places). Or that there was actually a bit of a lead in to the climb after the sprint which allowed some recovery. My HRM died halfway around because I hadn’t charged it… On top of that to be honest I don’t even know what some of the power ups do!… does that steam roller flatten the gradient, make the road smooth, or do both for example

This waffle is mainly for my benefit, as a way of cataloging some of the things I need to work on. But maybe other people are guilty of the same (?).

Shame there’s such a big gap to the next season. Hopefully we can race together at least once a week in the interim. And then next season we should all be in better shape and in better routine from the get go.

I wouldn't beat yourself up, it was a dead rubber end of season race to be fair. I must say I did the same, very little research which Is unusual, if I did It again id maybe try a gravel bike but it was great fun anyway and added a dimension (I wouldn't want it every week but maybe gravel once a season isn't the worst thing). This season we had much less bodies than the last so hopefully we wil all be raring to go for next season (although it's after Christmas so I will need to update my weight 😥)

Any chance someone could find out? I would love to take part but don't want to take anyone else spot or spoil the Team effort by coming in last
Quick reply from DBR - just the 6 best finishers within a team get points towards the team standings. No minimum or maximum numbers for teams, just the top 6 results count. Doesn't have to be the same riders each week.

That sounds perfect! I'll do my best, timing is a bit early so might not be able to every week but that's a good format

A few meetup races could be fun again. There's a rumour going that 3 C boys destroyed a chasing B pack last time out and the Bs may want some revenge 😁
I'd be up for a cyclechat meetup race if we can find a time/day suitable for enough of us. Would prefer a straight race rather than the handicap thing though as it's just really hard (and sometimes contentious!) getting the time gaps right and fair

Good idea. No need for a handicap. Just put you top B's on gravel bikes on a road course 👍

Haha! I like how we're getting sub-categories within categories now

ALSO you may remember that in the ZRL team chat earlier this week Carl made it clear (quite rightly) that I was not to be considered a "top B" based on my time up the Temple climb - so on that basis yeah I'm up for that idea :okay:

Yeah I agree mate. It turned into a interesting race in the end didn’t it. And yeah I think we could go gravel bike from the start next time and still come a cropper!

The race I really enjoyed was when we all set off from a rolling neutralised start, anyone remember that one? It meant people couldn’t just blast off the front and there was a couple of different breakaway attacks before one finally stuck.
