When I watched last weeks race I thought the opposite - they didn't want Verstappen to win. It's been an odd couple of races but it did make for a dramatic conclusion.

And I suppose as we are all talking about it shows that whatever happened (fair or unfair) F1 will probably get new fans out of it.
And this is where my bias came in ... I've only watched the one race, but the commentators were talking about another one too with a dodgy result but I wasn't sure what the impact of that was.

But for me i was thinking about a cycle race ... there is a breakaway, close to the finish, something happens and then the organisers don't just neutralise the race but bring the riders back together again so the guy (Roglic say), in the break, now has Pogachar (sic!) back with him even though Rogic has expended more energy and gone into the red to get ahead. It's the last race of the tour, the GC standings are exactly the same time, and Pogachar jumps Roglic on the last 100 metres to take Yellow. Not sure we'd accept that in cycling but that's what it feels like F1 has just done.

Up until then I was actually enjoying the race, whcih given I've not watched any for 30 years I was surprised by. But no, it's put me off watching again. Feels a bit like when Shumacher (I think?) ran someone off the track years ago to win the championship.

I'll go back to watching darts :laugh:

LH was 10 seconds ahead when the crash happened; I can't understand why the same time gaps were not enforced .. wouldn't that be fair?

No that’s not they way it works generally.

Sporting regs 38.1 ( I think ), The lapped cars may be released to unlap themselves. When ALL lapped cars have passed the safety car the safety car comes in the lap following. So by the FIA's own regulations it should have finished under the safety car ... Like at Spa, but then Max was in front that time!!

Race director has brought the sport into disrepute IMO! Would never have happened with Charlie in the hot seat!

You have to wonder if there was a "money" conversation between DM and the Williams team in the later laps ???

Im not sure about conspiracy. But why the team principle get to bark down the radio at the stewards. I think it’s mental. Obviously in that situation Horner is going to be barking down the radio and Mercedes’ have no reason to at that point. So it’s just pressure from one side. That really needs looking at for the future surely?

I get that, but does seem a bit strange from an outsider looking in .... LH was ahead all race, but then due to no fault of his own all his advantage and work was taken from him whilst MV had the ability to get new tyres, and regain his position ... but not just regain, also get back the time he was down on LH and gain the time it took him to change tyres.

'Feels' wrong somehow.

Yeah it’s kind of cruel. But it’s one of those things that can go either way. It used to be worse before they had virtual safety cars. Now at least when they can use the virtual car everyone has to reduce their speed by 40% I believe. So at least you may avoid the bunching effect. But I think generally it’s one of those things that’s the same for everyone. Sometimes it works for you. Sometimes against.

It's one of those things that's inevitable with safety car periods. Even if they'd stopped the race and allowed tyre changes, that would have disadvantaged those who had recently pitted and lost track position, or those with fresher tyres (see Monaco 2011).

Might be late for start tonight. Do they allow late starting ?
No. There is no late join icon unlike the Forte Race Series event.
