That's what makes these rides so brutal. There never seems to be much of an opportunity to recover - unless you drop back into another group.

Sworks 8 shoes being reportedly seen at the Saudi tour, it should mean sworks 7 shoes drop a bit in price. Good shoes if you've got narrow feet and an overflowing wallet.

Mine are well beaten up and need to be replaced.

I have wide feet and I wouldn't say the wallet for overflowing either haha

But thanks for the recommendation, I was looking at the torch 1.0 which Is probably the price point below but at the same time don't want to be cheap and end up with an injury, so I'll check out them as well

I would recommend whatever your LBS 'supports'.

Mine sells Lake shoes and if you buy from them they provide a service where if something doesn't fit perfectly they give you a discount on CF insole, put you on a bike and mould it to your needs for free.

My LBS is specialised supported. They are selling the s works 7 for 370 quid. I saw sigma sports have it for 184 but only if you have tiny feet.

My Shimano MTB shoes cost something like £49. I ordered 4 pairs in half size increments to get the best fitting size. Returned the rest.

Wished I ordered a couple of pairs, they have been brilliant even over 8 years old now, looking a bit tatty

I have a wide foot and Lake shoes is been a my selection. Lake have a good website where is proper size chart, it tells last length and width. It helps if you order online.

I had my shoes for ages but decided I needed new once the sole started coming away. I bought a set of Lake's before Christmas. They weren't cheap but they do the wide fittings - suggest you get properly measured if you have wide feet (like me). I also had the custom insoles done which cost a bit but make a difference.

I've got quite wide feet and have had standard fit Mavic shoes which were too narrow, shimano wide fit ones which were too wide (but OK with thicker socks in winter), and now have Rapha Classic shoes which I find very comfortable - and compared to many other shoes of similar quality they actually pretty reasonably priced (which is surprising considering it's Rapha!). They are lace up which isn't everyone's cup of tea but I have replaced the normal laces with quick release elasticated ones which works well for me.

I have s works 7. For what it’s worth they’re not particularly narrow. Some people say they have problems with the collar (?), near the tongue at the top of the show, digging into their feet.

Generally I think one thing that makes a noticeable difference in cycling shoes is getting one with a carbon sole because they’re a lot stiffer. I’d really recommend getting carbon soles but after that there’s lots of choice.

I went with a pair of these for my road bike, as I will be swapping the Rally converted Vector SPD pedals between the tandem and the Chirevelo. For £100 - or less with a PlanetX sale they are bloody good shoes. If you want a 3 bolt option then the also do them as a road shoe. Giro rumble VR are very difficult to beat as a touring shoe.

I've got two pairs of Sidi Genius <something>, which are awesome. I bought one pair about 20 years ago and still wear them to this day. The other pair, I bought about 15 years ago and I've only worn them once or twice!

Having just looked up how much they cost now, I'm happy that I won't be having to shell out for them again in the near future...
