Not sure about the 'make believe' part of it. I know some people, especially seasoned cyclists may slightly look down on virtual riding but my experience so far is that it's actually harder

I personally started my 'proper' cycling on Zwift and got a road bike ~3 months later. First real world ride: Couldn't believe how easy it was

All you need now is to master staying upright in a range of conditions and situations. When I first got my turbo back in May last year, my indoor FTP was about 30% lower than outdoor (which I checked and is a known thing). They do say it adjusts as you get used to indoor. I'll be interested to see. At the time I took an instant dislike to indoor, but once I started treating Zwift as a "video game with an expensive controller that helps you with your cycling fitness", I very quickly got hooked.

Love it now and it's brilliant for structured training. You can give it your all without having to worry about saving some energy to get home or passing out and falling off. No traffic either.

I've spent a few early winter months training completely indoors. This was either Trainer Road or Zwift. I took this fitness and had a relatively easy week riding up and around Mt. Teide. My outdoor technique took only 10 mins to rediscover

Peeps - on the issue of real life riding - I need a bit of help with a purchase. From time to time I'll be using some shared spaces, e.g. York Racecourse for some of my easy/recovery sessions. Can someone recommend me a bell that works with a road bike? Ideally installed so that I can operate it while on the hoods.

And yet my outdoor FTP would probably be way lower than my indoor one - I’ve never actually measured it as I don’t have a power meter on my outdoor bike and so have to rely on Strava’s estimated figures (not sure how accurate they are).

Though admittedly most of my Zwift rides are short intense sessions (like races) where I’m aiming for certain power figures, while all my outdoor rides are long endurance ones where I’m not too concerned about how fast I’m going or how much power I’m putting down.

I’ve got one of these https://www.chainreactioncycles.com...sH2bERTb_5Pj5sUHf6saAiR_EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Decent enough, but as with all bells it’s pretty useless in rain.
