ZRL race this morning.

Tough course but a really good one for a ZRL race.

I think you boys will enjoy it tonight. Need to get your tactics right for this one!

I'm out of racing at the moment .. asthma and hayfever playing up ... but we have a strong B and C team out tonight looking to mix it up. We'd tell you our tactics, but then we'd have to kill you

Fairly straightforward.

You’ve got 2 sprint gates at 1km and 4km - the 4km one is just after the first 2 ramps that are the start of the Railway KoM. After the second sprint you’ve got around 2km until the KoM.

We decided who our sprinters were and who was going for finishing points. Tactics were for the sprinters to go all out sprint points at the first 2 gates and then hang on for as long as possible. The finishing points riders didn’t contest the sprints, just tried to stay in touch and draft as much as they could to get to the top of the Railway KoM. That’s the start of the second half of the race.

From there you descend and get around 10k to recover before the 3rd sprint gate ahead of the Temple KoM. Then it’s around 6km to the KoM. Just hit this as hard as possible. Nobody in the B race changed bikes as far as I could see.

Worked out fairly well as we planned. Our sprinters scored FAL and FTS points. Our finishing points riders were mainly mid pack and mostly caught the sprinters on the second half, although our stronger riders who stayed closest to the sprinters were further up.

It’s a really good course for a ZRL race.

Enjoy!

How did it go, everyone?

I get the feeling it was another good night out for the CycleChat Splitters?!

You missed a bit of my sledging tonight @Whorty - think I’m a marked man in the next race now after taking the piss out of two guys who had two in the front four in the CCC race 🤣

Splitters smashed it. Mix of riders at pointy end and proper lead outs for the sprints for FTS, played to strengths well.

Waiting for the official results but we are up there...

Sounds like CCC are close to the top step and all (and a bit more craic in your race!)

Some good and hard racing tonight, the C team definitely gave it all. Shame I had nothing left for the KOM - could have picked up more finish points. Brilliant debut @alex_cycles - hope you got that FTS!

Thanks. Well ZP think so, will have to see if WTRL agrees. You got a whole slew of points. Well done!
