I did an interesting experiment yesterday. My zFTP was 199 and zMAP was 241 (3.6), but someone had mentioned if you do a hard 5m you can push your zFTP down further. I was a bit sceptical but decided to have a go, so set a workout for 5:30 at 4.0 (270w) which I just about managed.

And damn it, it worked...

zFTP now 192 and zMAP 269 (4.0).

The point here is that, for ZRL, if you are zFTP <200 you cannot get pushed into B even with a >4.1 zMAP ride. It's a quirk of how they model the CP value that they use for zFTP. I don't think I'm fit enough to raise my zFTP above 200 at the moment (although real FTP is about 225).

I've just had the opposite (although I wasn't trying to do either). My workout yesterday was a tough Threshold over/under. It raised my zFTP from 209 to 224W. My TrainerRoad indoor FTP is 242W.

Weight coming down again - having a dry September

I've just signed up with a team for the upcoming ZRL (starts next Tuesday).

The team is in the Cat B "Development" division which is for Cat B riders with a zFTP of less than 3.74w/kg and zMAP of less than 4.53w/kg (basically a "low B" Cat). We're entered in Shamrock league which is 6.30pm UK time.

There's still a couple of slots available for the squad if anyone is interested and fits the criteria and can do the timeslot?

I can't make this week, but I'd be able to make the following weeks. I could do with a bit of racing in my legs to build up my threshold stamina. Let me know if you want me and, if so, how I can join.

I assume it was a longer effort than 5-6 minutes? That would make sense (I think) if it was 20m plus.

Neobike arrived! So may be able to help out. Fitness a bit of a question mark, hoping 5 a side and running will have held it at a decent level, but probably moreso for a slot that would otherwise not be filled!

I think I fit the bill and am actually back available!!

I presume there's no real interest on here in forming a low-C or high-D team for ZRL? Most of the people who used to form those teams either have got a lot better or aren't really on here much any more, which is a shame.

If not, I might try to sign up for another team, but they don't make it easy to find a team if you're not on Facebook. Last year I tried WTRL's "matching service" to see if I could get on a team and listed in the reasons that I wasn't on FB and was interested in doing so. Who did they match me with? A team that required you to sign up to their Facebook page in order to join them...

It was 5 x 12 minute over/unders with 8 min recoveries (6 x 2 minutes 230/254/230/254/230/254)

Wowzer, I bet a session like that gives you stacks of TSS!

I did a 28-minute workout this morning and was ready to climb off after the first 10-minute block! My threshold endurance has gone to shit since my holiday...

After my club's hill climb championship next week (rained off this Wednesday night), I'm hoping to be able to get a few ZRL or other Zwift races under my belt to improve this. That said, my main aim of the season is a three-minute race at the end of October.

Oops, stupid me forgot the detail of my free trial code being 60 days and not two calendar months, even though I should have cancelled in advance. Thought payment wouldn't be until Sunday, just seen it go through, d'oh!

Which platform will you go to after you use up the next month
Will probably see what MyWhoosh is like these days, not tried it in months.

The most annoying thing about the payment going through today is that we're away for a week, plus if the weather is dry, I want to continue riding outdoors and continue my return to around Old Winchester Hill after barely getting around there during '23 and '24.
