The bar bag doesn't have a cover, so I'll be putting things inside plastic bags just in case. The rear one does have a cover though.

Thanks, might look for one with a cover - it is the west coast of Scotland after all! Cheers.

At least I am lurking publically, if such a thing is possible
Just dead-jealous that I can't join you ...

Wait until we report back tales of being soaked, battered by high winds ... btw, what does one do on tour if shoes get wet, not dried by next day??

If shoes get wet you stuff them with newspaper, obviously! Dry the next day.

  • stuff with newspaper over night and swap a few times before you go to bed ... normally works fine ...
  • wear sandals as it's the middle of summer ... water just runs through them (there are sports type sandals that are perfect, like these)
  • get overshoes (probably a bit warm in summer)
Note: Scottish summers may not qualify for sandal weather

When my shoes get wet in Glasgow after a downpour I do stuff them with newspaper, they are still wet the week after
And what are you supposed to wear in the meantime? And is one supposed to tour with half dozen old papers in ones panniers?
I feel there's gonna be unaccounted variables on this trip
