Most the riders I know are between 35 and 50. A couple are low 20's and high 60's .

So, to me, cycling is a middle aged sport.

Long-distance is a bit different. The average age of AUK members is something in the 50s (which means I'm above average! Woohoo!).

Is cycling mainly for the younger generation who gradually stop riding as they get into middle age? I am 63, and have been cycling since I learned to ride a 2 wheeler when I was 4. I've only had a brief time away following a back operation. I would be interested to know who has kept the faith.

Have been cycling off and on all my life. Started by riding to school. Continued on into mountain bike racing. Dabbled with track and circuit racing then work, family etc got in the way to take it too seriously. Now at the age of 64 I have been riding on the road for the last six months regularly and enjoying every moment. Have even bought myself a winter bike now. I don't feel my age when on the bike but when I get off it after a 30 mile jaunt maybe I do!!
