Anyone interested in a CC ride from Hull to York & back on Saturday 21st Aug

Usual 'rules' apply, nice steady pace & plenty of cake stops

Plan is to leave Hull at 09.00, head up to Beverley onto Market Weighton, Pocklington, Gate Helmsley & York, then returning via Selby & the Trans Pennine Trail
If anyone wants to meet up en-route for part of the ride I'll try & work out eta for required meet up points

I am tempted by this. We lived in Hull for 5 yrears some 50 yrs ago; I rode a bike sold by Ken Ellerker and have good memories of the Yokshire Wolds and Riplingham etc. I also remember riding to York and nearly collapsing on the way back on a cold wet summer's night; it must have been the bonk although I did not know the term at that time. After that I rarely rode a bike until two yrs ago.

Is the Trans-Pennine Trail passable on 25mm Gatorskins?

I could be up for joining you - I'm thinking maybe I could ride out from York to meet you on the Bev-Pock route, ride back, and then out again for as far as I fancy before heading back?

As long as I know your route into York, we should meet, or if the time is right, we could arrange to rendezvous somewhere particular...

Sounds like a good day out, and a forum ride that's actually up here! But I should be somewhere between Kirkby Lonsdale and Barrow in Furness that day, on day 4 of the CrinklyCub's big adventure http://zakonnabike.edublogs.org/

Maybe I should arrange a cake drop for you?

I'm working nights, so if I do join the ride, as I never know how tired I'm going to be in a morning, it would only be till about 1200ish as I like to spend the afternoon in bed.

If its the same bit of Transpennine trail we did last year, then I was OK on 25mm Marathons, but there a lot tougher than gatorskins.

Thanks for the comment. I checked - there are 4 /5 separate Marathons; is any particular type reccommended? I am somewhat clueless since my experience is limited to slicks on the tarmac. I know will need to be careful that the tyres can be accommodated on a VN Yukon with Crud Racer 'guards.

I see what you mean, they must be breeding, I was using, just plain "Marathon" 700 x 25C

But I have stopped using them, went on to Marathon plus instead, but did not like the idea of getting a puncture that might happen one day, miles from home in inclement weather or darkness, and then have a major struggle to refit them, especcially if I am tired, as they are a pig to fit, two hours to fit two succesfully the last time I fitted them. Then tried Specialised Armadillo Elite, but could only get around 700 miles out of a tyre before it became U/S, so now I use Bontrager hardcase all condition, very easy to fit and very tough, probably Bontragers copy of a marathon, and so far 2568 miles and no punctures, and there cheap.

Sorry folks. I'm not going to be able to make this date now as I'll be entertaining children instead
Anyone else want to take lead & still do the ride, or I could possibly do it the weekend after ?

Thanks for the comment which is endorsed by my LBS. I am hoping the 28mm will fit.

Not family as such. It's foster children & unfortunatly I'd not wrote this ride in the house diary, so we ended up with kids for that weekend & my wife's at work Saturday. Let that be a lesson to me, always write planned rides in the diary

Well, even more noble/self-sacrificing. I have never thought I had enough metal reserve to adequately help foster children and I am truly respectful of yr decision. BRs.

HaHa - that is is Best regards not B****** R***.
