I like that. Next door have done a similar theme, setting the garden out in small spaces for different things and there's is nice. I think that might be beyond me though, given I'm struggling with grass.

Just let the weeds grow - but mow it too. It'll end up grassed over - just like those lawns rabbits create when they routinely nibble. A lot less work and hassle

I was in Lidl this afternoon and spotted they had "grass mats" which looked as if they might work for you - you could nail them down, if you learned how to use a hammer; maybe @threebikesmcginty could help you?

No blackbird was guilty and lurked in the bushes waiting for me to leave!
Really. I've had a few but they've all taken worms. No other birds really, next door has a luxury feast out for them permanently.
