What are the signs of aging you've noticed? Mine are:

  1. Listening to radio 4 instead of radio 1.
  2. Losing interest in modern music altogether.
  3. All the footballers your age retiring and becoming managers.
  4. The actor playing Dr Who is younger than you are.
  5. The actor playing James Bond is younger than you are.
  6. Refusing to write text messages in text speak.
  7. Using apostrophes in text messages.
  8. Dates of science fiction titles that once seemed futuristic are now in the past.

1,2,4,5 and 8 sound horribly true.

1984 seems a long time ago. As does 2000 AD.
I want my jetpack, hovercar and silver jumpsuit, dammit!

I've followed Formula One for many years and as I was getting ready for the new season, it occurred to me that apart from a few soon to be retired old-timers like Giancarlo Fisichella and Rubens Barrichello, all the drivers are younger than me, including all the champs that have followed on since Schumacher:sad:

  1. I'm currently in the halfway house that is 6 Music
  2. Not all modern music, but certainly what seems to pass for "popular" these days...
  3. Not yet!
  4. Yup:sad:
  5. Nope!
  6. Nowt to be ashamed of! It was one of the factors that drew my girlfriend and I together!
  7. Ditto!
  8. Surely this is a function of the books rather than my age? I hope!

Fair cop guv! Got me bang to rights. Plus...

Not just wanting an early night but actually prefering it.
Turning the tv off and reading for a bit.
Knowing you should recognise some young celeb but not actually having any idea who they are.
Turning the radio down.
Smiling and not saying anything, at any number of things.

I have just taken up listening to the Classical FM adverts again, wear a coat to walk the dog at night, like a nice drop of wine and don't watch telly (well, might tune into the news - and I'm sure I would be entertained otherwise but...) I get images to work work with which include my boss with celebrities...there is usually the "ooo aaaahh!" - and I have no clue who they are save for one so far...
Fledgiling miserable old sod work in progress here...

Oldness is a state of mind.

My kids, 21, 18 and 16 are frequently surprised when they announce thier discoveries of off the wall music only to find that I already have it on CD.

Kids that I teach frequently estimate my age to be at least a decade younger than it really is.

I can win childish arguments with childish retorts and non-sequiteurs.

My offers to resolve conflicts by arm wrestling bouts resolve the conflicts before the arm wrestling takes place.

I can spit further than my boys.

I can out weird them with my clothing.

I frequently get told to grow up by teenagers.

Age is only an issue if you want it to be.

The older I get the better I was.

I've always listened to Radio 4. Does that mean I've always been old. Well, recently I've started to drift towards Radio 3 but only for the Jazz on Saturday afternoons. Oh dear, I think that might be worse.
Modern music is complete rubbish. Of course I have no interest in it.
All actors seem younger than me
I insist on proper language, so of course I use proper English in text messages, and I use full and proper punctuation .
Gerry Anderson's UFO. How futuristic was that. Set as it was in - 1986, I think. Space 1999. 2001 and 2010.
Hair, the grey patch is bigger than the bald patch
I can't drink alcohol any more, but when I did I had given up on beer and lager and favoured savouring a fine single malt, and a dram would last me all evening.
