^^^I have always imagined it would be like living in somewhere like Milton Keynes or Slough - A bit dull, but nice enough.
This but with better coffee and more museums.

So it would be the kind of place where she's safe going to a petrol station on her own late at night?
Do it. Do it NOW!I've got the chance of going to live in Canberra for a couple of years. It's to do my husband's work, a 2-3 year secondment.
I'm wondering if anyone here would take the opportunity?
I was there in the early 90s for a week or two and remember it being a nice enough place if slightly dull as I guess many planned cities are. The country around the city I remember as being great though and I went on a few long walks seeing plenty of wildlife. The Snowy Mountains are on your doorstep and Sydney's not far away, so on balance I'd go for it, even if by all accounts the Australians hate cyclists as much as the Brits do!
Some things are better left unasked.Main question - what's the like?
as opposed to...goldfish?It's an artificial city, designed by architects,.
I can see some good cycling routes for a trikeLooking at this, I can imagine worse places to spend a couple of years.
Town planners, for example. Architects have their own fixed ideas and prejudices. I grew up in a development planned by Walter Burley Griffin, who co-designed Canberra. I know of what I speak.as opposed to...goldfish?
