I've had a faulty tyre do that to me before. Have a look at the bead and tyre edge you might find there's no wire or the little rubber striations look out of kilter where the ripped tube coincided. I took photos and sent them to Schwalbe and got a new tyre by return post.

Is it possible the tyre was folded at some stage before fitting on the rim?
I ask because this can cause the wire in the tyre edge to become kinked.

I don't recall it being folded, I had only done 2 miles on it from new and picked up a puncture. I found a thorn in the main tread section, removed it and was in the process of fitting my only replacement tube.
I had inflated the tyre, and was holding the wheel at arms length, about to fit back to the front forks when BANG!
It sounded like a gun!

Seen them in Poundland now and then, but I forget how much they were...
For some strange reason, the spellchecker wanted to correct Poundland to Newfoundland or Poland, either of which is a bit of a trek to do some shopping. However cheap the inner tubes are.
