Any preferences on aluminum polish on these rims. I wiped them down with a damp rag but want to give a nice clean look

Don't know if the Cat Eye reflector is original. This had them front and back and also on the rims. But the orange pair shown were on the rims. These I think are original

Also I don't get what the poll casting section is,so I just added the letter R to get on with my posting
It is hard to tell from your photos but I think it is ok. Once you have the chain back on and routed through the jockey wheels correctly it will pull the derailleur back into position.

I would day they were original

Any chrome polish would do your rims or just a good quality car polish

These rims are the original aluminum so I was figuring using a good aluminum polish

Here in the UK and I'm the same would apply in the US, polishing kits are easily available containing a polishing comound and sissel mops. For the wheels and in fact most ali bike parts, drill mounted items are best.

You can get some very good results...

My other concern is cleaning this plastic shield. It is the original Maillard and not damaged although it spins freeley(not sure if it should), I am guessing using some Dawn dish soap and a soft toothbrush.

Front tire off. Guess I should replace this due to its age, it looks to be dryrotting. Would adding solid tires to this bike be costly (I might be going overboard but this is my project for the winter, no rush.

Gmorn I going to replace rear derailler its dated 1985 however I have only seen ones that are claw mount, mine is not. Does this matter and will it affect the gear shifting. It might be a stupid question but I feel safer checking first.
