4 rides, 3 punctures... I'm about to give up on this lark.

I have a couple of pairs of Gatorksins with occasional problems but perhaps 2-3 per year over 5000k+

Never had an issue with 4000's other than a piece of Lakeland flint, but that's feck all fault of the tyre.

I've still got a pair in the shed TBH but I stick to Conti Gatoskins now as I've never had any issues using them over the past few years either and can't be @rsed to change them in the better weather.

BTW OP, nearly £100 on tyres and tubes! Assuming you just bought two tyres, (as you say you now need to buy another), just how many tubes did you buy with the remaining 35-40 quid?

So, you're riding through parks on road tyres.

There's the issue.

The park leads to a well known cycle route and is used by cyclists. It even has a cycle hire unit... nothing wrong with cycling there.

There's more chance of there being glass on the side of the road than in the park.

I fitted my third consecutive set of GP4000s tyres this morning which shows I like them and find them reliably puncture proof.
I did have to scrap one tyre early when it failed along the bead, possibly due to rough handling of a tyre lever on my behalf. It gave me three flats on the same ride before I realised what the problem was and I was only able to limp home after improvising a paper boot.

I will get a photo of the tyre tomorrow, I'm hoping I can get away with replacing it, it's hard to tell at the moment because it's not holding air (obviously) so I don't know how wide the cut is when inflated.

Now't wrong with riding thru the park, I do it a lot and can only remember puncturing once in there (though it was at 4.30am in the pitch black)

I can't see anything wrong with it either, I mean parks vary depending on location. Many of them have better surfaces than roads.

I'm sure many with road tyres ride on cycle paths too.

Riding through glass is riding through glass, whether it's on a road or in a park.

Someone is trying to be elitist.

So I need a cycle path specific tyre now? What about when I go on the road? Swap back to the 4000S II's?

Phixion what kind of bike is it and what kind of riding (commute/leisure) etc?
If you want really decent puncture protection look at something like Schwalbe Marathon/Marathon+, if you want something lighter but still decent look at Durano+.

If you're only leisure riding then I wouldn't worry too much and just put it down to a bit of bad luck, I think most of us have a spell of them then nothing for ages, just the way it goes sometimes.
