4 rides, 3 punctures... I'm about to give up on this lark.

Using appropriate tyres has nothing to do with snobbery...

Appropriate tyres for what? You don't know the surface in my park, so why do you feel the need to chime in with such useless comments?

Whether you mean to or not, you sound like a snob.

I will get a photo of the tyre tomorrow, I'm hoping I can get away with replacing it, it's hard to tell at the moment because it's not holding air (obviously) so I don't know how wide the cut is when inflated.

If it's not holding air then he tube has a puncture as well or the valve is leaking. Cut out a section of tyre from one of your old tyres, you have no shortage of these, making a patch for the bad cut in your current tyre and place it between tyre and tube under the cut to prevent the tube exploding if when riding a sharp object or stone were to get through to the tube, BANG!

Tyres you need are Specialised Armadillo Nimbus or All Condition Elite.

Well one thing's for certain, the surface of your park is covered with lots of sharp objects which you seem unable to avoid, hence you coming on here for tyre advice. Why not ride on the grass or would that mean you would then have dog turd all over your bike tyres?

Have you ever been to my local park? Do you know what the surface is like?

I think everyone is basing their opinion on this, which is a gives a strong idea ..

a huge shard of glass that was mixed in with gravel in my local park.

So...cutting to the chase. @Phixion, I used to use Gatorskins on one of my bikes, used for general commuting and road riding round Surrey and Sussex. They seemed OK. The other bike used to have Specialized Armadillos. Same sort of riding. In the end I ditched the Armadillos, as they had a tendancy to have the tread become unstuck from the carcass, and I swapped for Durano Plus. These seem to feel a bit faster, although that be all subjective. They're 25mm compared to the 28mm Armadillos, which may well account for it. On the strength of my experience with them, I put them on the previously Gatorskin shod bike when they wore out.

So far, so puncture resistant, but you can't allow for a bad spot of luck.

This just happened to one of mine which was on the rear wheel, but I must have ridden at least 7,000 miles on it so it didn't owe me anything. Just worn out. Front is still fine though.

Durano 25s would be (are) my choice for most purposes. Not completely resistant to visitations but better than the Michelin Pro4 Endurance which replaced the much loved and robust Krylion. Sadly the Endurance utterly fail to live up to their name IME.
Or Durano regular front / Durano Plus on the rear for a little more longevity.

Personally I avoid Vittorias and most Contis - much harder to get on and off the rims than Schwalbe or Michelin.
Specialized ? I got rid of those faster than you can say Armadildo. Never punctured (in 20km), but horribly heavy and lousy grip.

I'm running Schwalbe Durano's on my road bike (700x23c). They are a pretty good compromise. they are nowhere near as free rolling as the Conti slicks I've been using for summer, but I can live with a slightly more draggy tyre that has better shielding. They do grip very well, and I've not had a puncture in 8 weeks (1600 odd miles). With the mileage I do, punctures can be a bit tiresome.
