9 / 10 speed chainsets

Are these interchangable?

i.e. I'm running a 9sp setup, Tiagra shifters, and need a new chainset. Am I restricted to a 9sp specific chainset (Tiagra or equivalent) or would a 10sp chainset work too?

A ten speed will work perfectly.

Been running a 10 speed chainset on 9 speed gears for s0me time.No probs.
